The top ten reasons we know the new testament writers told the truth:

1. New Testament writers includes embasrrassing details about themselves

The principle of embarrassment = any details emarrassing to the author are probably true

Tendency of most authors is to leave out anything that makes them look bad

  • Disciples failed understand what Jesus was saying
  • Peter mistakenly rebuked Jesus
  • They were cowards when Jesus needed them
  • They were doubters despite Jesus' predictions

2. New Testament writers includes embasrrassing details about Jesus

  • Jesus was considered out of his mind - Mark 3:31
  • Jesus was not believed by his own borthers - John 7:5
  • Jesus was thought to be a deciver - John 7:12
  • Jesus was desserted by many of his followers - John 6:66
  • Jesus was called a drunkard - Matthew 11:19
  • Jesus was called a madman - John 10:20
