2011-09-23 - Proverbs on Pride (part III) Proverbs 13:10 - wise men and women listen to each other's counsel Proverbs 18:11 - The rich think their wealth protects them Illustration:

2011-09-26 - Proverbs on Advice - Seek Help Proverbs 15:22 - Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Gettysburg was the turning point of the Civil War.
Proverbs 11:14 - For lack of guidance a nation falls but many advisers make victory sure. In the life of a disciple we need eyes all around us (we are in a spiritual battle, not against flesh and blood but against the dark forces of this world).
Five lessons to learn about advice... 1. Seek Advice Proverbs 14:12 - There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death Proverbs 18:15 - The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, the ears of the wise seek it out If we were going to buy a car for the 1st time, most of us would seek a lot of advice.
If we need help in other areas (that’s good) surely our spiritual life is more important because it has an eternal destination (good or bad)

2011-09-27 - Proverbs on Advice - Advisors bring victory 2. Advisors bring victory Proverbs 11:14 - For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure Proverbs 25:12 - Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise man’s rebuke to a listening ear We all want to succeed; we all want to be winners.
3. Without instruction, bad things happen Proverbs 19:27 - Stop listening to instruction my son and you will stray from the words of knowledge Proverbs 21:16 - A man who strays from the path of understanding comes to rest in the company of the dead Sometimes were just think-headed (we know what’s best)

2011-10-01 - Genesis 1 - Creation & RecreationSummaryGod created the heavens, the earth and everything that lives. He made humankind in his image and gave them charge over the earth. ObservationsGenesis 1:1 - the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, Personal ApplicationGod is bigger than I think he is. I have made him too small in my mind and do not allow Him to take control -- this is absurd since he has control over the universe and does a perfect job at it. My actions show that I don't fully trust God in this way. |
2011-10-04 - Genesis 4 - Cain Murders AbelSummaryEve's sons made offerings to God. Only Abel's was acceptable, so Cain killed him. Abel's blood cried out and God sent Cain away. ObservationsGenesis 4:7 - if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door Personal ApplicationI wonder sometimes if I have my "ringer" loud enough for me to hear when God calls. A lot of times I look back on important events in my life and realize that I missed another lesson God was trying to teach me but I was not listening. I feel embarrassed that I was so selfish during that times. I want to listen voice from God more intensely. |
2011-10-12 - Genesis 12 - The Call of AbrahamSummaryGod told Abram, "Go. I will make you a great nation. You will be a blessing." In Egypt Abram lied about Sarai and Pharaoh was cursed. ObservationsGenesis 12:1 - Leave your country, your people Personal ApplicationI value comfort but it is not the same comfort that comes from God. When I look at my heart, I am slower to change then I used to be as a younger Christian. This should not be. What is stopping me from changing? Would I being willing to move again for God? |
2011-10-14 - Genesis 14 - The Kidnapping of LotSummaryThe kings went to war and took Lot captive. Abram rescued Lot. Melchizedek blessed Abram and Abram gave him a tenth of everything. ObservationsGenesis 14:18 - Melchizedek ... He was priest of God Most High
Personal ApplicationDo I have a good sense of my relationships? Do I tend to be a part of group to just belong or a higher reason? I find it much easier to take then to give and I do not think I have conviction on doing the reverse. There is no such thing as a free lunch (maybe from God because he gives freely) - are some offers of others giving really a trap? In some some situations, I should be giving instead of taking. |
2011-10-18 - Genesis 18 - Abraham prays for SodomSummaryThree visitors came and said that Sarah would have a son next year. Sodom was very evil; Abraham pleaded with the LORD for the city. ObservationsGenesis 18:14 - Is anything too hard for the LORD? Personal ApplicationI doubt God way too much (once is too much )and I do probably everyday - I am doing it right now. God is god, he can do anything. Yes, even that. I have got to stop making God smaller in my mind. Every time that I think I have an understanding how big and strong he is - God is beyond that. He greater than I can imagine. |
2011-10-19 - Genesis 19 - Sodom is destroyedSummaryAngels took Lot out of Sodom. The city was destroyed by fire and Lot's wife was turned to salt. His daughters had children for him. ObservationsGenesis 19:14 - But his sons-in-law thought he was joking Personal ApplicationBy nature, I am a jokester. I have love to laugh - there is a time for everything. I need to learn how to take the important things seriously. When I hear a call from God to repent, not sure my immediate reaction is to change. I make excuses about doing things in the near future or lie to myself that I am doing OK. The costs are too great not to hear and obey the call. |

2011-12-19 - Day 16 - Saved to Save 1 Peter 2:9-10
|
2011-12-23 - Day 20 - Tempted by the World ~Psalms 73:1-14

2012-01-05 - Day 33 - Shining Like Stars Philippians 2:14-16
Application: Pray for a heart that truly loves deeply as you share your faith today. |
2012-01-28 - Ministry - Compromise or Conviction? John 6: 60-69; Luke 9: 57-62; Luke 14:25-33;Matt. 18:5-9 How many times do we face the decision to compromise our faith just to win the approval of people around us or to be so desperately accepted? We know we should be strong, we know we should have deep convictions and take a stand for God, but we give into the peer pressure at school, work, and the people-pleasing non-conflict avoiding sinful nature inside all of us! We want to be liked! We want to avoid confrontation, conflict, and courageously calling others out of sin! Jesus loved God and others so much he was willing to tell the truth no matter how it made someone feel! He preached what people needed to hear and not what they wanted to hear! He laid out the hard teachings with convictions not with apologies! Even when disciples decided to leave and no longer follow him, he did not compromise the truth! He let them leave and challenged others,"do you want to leave to?" Are you ready to die to compromise? What are the areas where you compromise your faith? Identify two areas that you consistently compromise in either at work, home or on campus? How often do you compromise? Share with your spouse, friends or d-group what you give-in to and your desire to want to change. |
2012-02-01 - Ministry - Intimidated or Inspired? Matthew 23:1-7 The austere lifestyles of the Pharisees were not ones that Christ wanted us to imitate. They said all the right things and lived in all the wrong ways. People felt burdened around the Pharisees because they knew they could not match up to that kind of lifestyle. The Pharisees were not just legalists; they were separatists, which is what the word Pharisee means. They were men preaching a life too big for them to live. They did not readily inspire the average Jew to follow them. People were afraid of them. They lead by intimidation rather than by inspiration. In vs. 5, Jesus chastises them for doing everything for men to see. In vs.6 he condemns their obsession with position and again in vs. 7, Jesus rebukes their love of role. They did not attract the kind of following that Jesus did and this made them bitter and envious. They did not really have the hearts of the people because they had only a heart for themselves. Do you call attention to yourself? Do you focus on your position or your role and get angry when it is not what you want? A person focused on men, role, or position will not want to serve and therefore will not inspire, only intimidate. Find some way, even small way, in which you can serve or encourage someone today. This will be an inspiration to them and to you. |
2012-02-02 - Ministry - The Wild Man Mark 5:1-20 So often in our lives as disciples we can unfortunately relate to the wild demon-possessed man we see in the scriptures. In my own life there are times when I long to be able to meet and connect with Jesus and to go deeper in my relationship with God but have it cut short by anger, anxiety and frustration. It's at these times that I must examine the sin and the areas of my life that are out of control. Areas to examine:
V17- The people begged Jesus to leave, even after he performed such an amazing miracle. Why? Jesus represented the light! John 3:19-21 teaches us that the light has come into the world to expose darkness. You will not want Jesus around if you do not welcome exposure. Questions for thought:
Focus on the relationship, not on the sin. Learn how to love people in spite of the sin in their lives. |
2012-02-09 - Ministry - Jesus Stayed Focused Amidst Challenges Matthew 14:13-21 How do you respond to bad news? Do you get angry? Faithless? Hard hearted? Self-piteous? When John the Baptist's disciples came to Jesus to tell him that his predecessor and cousin had been beheaded (Mt.14: 12) Jesus "withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place." When Jesus withdrew it wasn't to indulge in his emotions, but to call on his Father in heaven for the strength to handle pressure. Jesus didn't withdraw to escape the demands of the ministry. His dependence on God made it possible for him to deal with pain and still meet the needs of those around him. "Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick." (Mt.14: 14) It's a temptation for me - when I am feeling all the pressures from my life - to place limits on how much I love and serve others. Even though Jesus had just received news of his cousin's death, he didn't get irritated with the demands of the crowds. He healed their sick, then fed them. He didn't "send them away", as his disciples had suggested earlier. If we want to have impact like Jesus did, we must treasure our solitary time with God so that we can remain focused of the needs of others. At some point today or this week, you are going to be confronted with a challenge to give when you really do not want to. You may have to stay up late, get up early, or give in an uncomfortable, inconvenient way. Respond with a spiritual perspective. Respond with compassion. |
2012-02-17 - Fear of Failure - Openness Leads to Success by Bernard Jones, San Francisco Church of Christ 1 John 1:5-9; Proverbs 28:13 One of my biggest fears as a disciple is being totally open with my life. I am afraid that if people know me they will not want to be around me. For the last two years I have been deceitful about the condition of my marriage, finances, and my life. This has led me to feel discouraged and despondent. Many times I tried to fix the problem by transferring balances on credit cards, discipling myself, etc. I did all this because I didn't want people to see the true me. Being in the ministry can be a temptation to pretend to be someone I am not. One decision I have made is to be completely open about everything that is going on. Like Proverbs 28:13 says, if you are open, you will prosper. Since I have become repentant, I have seen my marriage grow, have been personally fruitful three times, and have a plan to be totally debt free in four years. I have realized that when I am open and real, God can use me to do great things. Is there anything you haven't been open about? Make a decision to be open today so God can bring prosperity to your life! |
2012-02-20 - Fear of Failure - Relying on God Never Fails by Jeremy Clark, San Francisco Church of Christ Jeremiah 17:5-10; Hosea 10:12-13 Often the failures in my life have felt devastating. They have made me doubt myself, made me doubt my purpose and made me doubt God. When I began to lead a ministry, I thought I could do it by myself. I was out to prove to myself that I was capable. As I began to lead I ran around all the time, I was exhausted, anxious, and worried about getting in trouble every day. I was miserable. What I didn't realize was that as I was trying to prove that I could do it, God was proving to me that I couldn't without him. My failure made me want to quit. I felt cursed; it seemed all the the work I did meant nothing. God was showing me my pride, but instead of praying more, I worried more and ran around more and was completely ineffective. My failure came because of my pride, my unwillingness to be open, and not getting the help I needed. I was relying on myself, and God was teaching me that he would not bless it. That lesson was hard to learn, but one so valuable to my life once I was willing to learn to rely on God and not my own strength.

2012-03-01 - Fear of Failure - Heart Failure by Kent Burke - Ministry Intern: San Francisco Church of Christ Numbers 11 When I see all of the problems in my life and I hear all of the complaints of the people around me, I can quickly lose heart. I do not have the strength to sustain people's hearts. Moses felt the same way when he was faced with all the complaints of the Israelites while wandering in the desert. But when Moses stopped to pray, God took care of all the complaints. We must learn to rely on God's power when we face trials in our lives. Practicals:

2012-03-03 - Fear of Failure - Failure to speak the truth by Adesha Johnson - Ministry Intern: San Francisco Church of Christ Isaiah 59 Failure to speak the truth does not have to be fatal A character sin in my life is deceitfulness. I'm insecure and will often turn to something other than God to find security. Ironically, when I'm in this state, I really feel like I'm doing the right thing! Isaiah 59:1-21 opened up my eyes to the inner workings of deceit. Verse 13 shows how deceit begins and ends. First, I rebel against the Lord by having shorter prayer and bible study and not turning to him as soon as I've sinned. Second, I start lying about how I'm doing and feeling. It's at those times that I find myself easily embittered at people around me. My bitterness is a direct result of the guilt I feel because of my deceit. Here's the bottom line: The Lord loves the truth! Decision: To be truthful daily in regards to sin, guilt and how I am feeling and to continue studying out Truth in the scriptures. |
2012-08-02 - Genesis 21 - The Birth of IsaacSummaryAs promised, Sarah had a son: Isaac. She had Hagar and Ishmael sent away but God preserved them. Abraham and Abimelech made a treaty. ObservationsGenesis 21:1 - The LORD visited Sarah just as he had said he would and did for Sarah what he had promised Personal ApplicationI need to unmoved by the changing seas around me. I go all over the place on where I stand on giving to others without resolve. Need to be consistent as I faithfully follow the Lord. |
2012-10-13 - Prayer of the Righeous - Arms Wide Open (part III) The older son a problem with his brother's return and his father's warm welcome The father pleaded with him - Luke 15:28 He refused to call him brother but instead "this son of yours" - Luke 15:30 It is difficult to pray when you are angry with God and you feel like he owes you something May feel God has not brought justice but Jesus promises to bring it but we need to persevere - Luke 18:7-8 Justice will come but not on our timetable When God's arms are wide open to us, we should not fold ours We can draw close to God with bitterness in our heart Reconcile with our brother BEFORE offering gifts to God - Matthew 5:23-24 Husbands treat your wives with respect so nothing will hinder your prayers - 1 Peter 3:7 If we can not throw our arms wide open for others around us, we are not being like God If we do not forgive, he can not forgive us - Matthew 6:15 |
2013-06-27 - Why we need men of resolution (part IV) Our generation desperately needs courageous men to step up.
When strong men work together, they can accomplish amazing things. David armies came together to face enemies amid seemingly impossible odds. Remember one immovable, unconditional truth: we have a Father in heaven who is for us. We must lock shields with other men around us and refuse to allow one another to fail |
2013-07-01 - Becoming a Chain Breaker (part I) Men need to realize how much is at stake We need to ask God to break the chains in our lives and from our past Children are not punished for the sins of their parents, they are definitely affected and negatively influenced by them. You matter the circumstances of your birth, you were not an accident - Acts 17:24-27 Chains present in all of our lives:
God is the ultimate Chain Breaker
|
2013-09-07 - Man of Resposibility When did you become a man? Men are often unsure. Learning this can not only help us understand ourselves better but also help our sons become secure men as well. When Jesus was twelve years old and His parents accidentally left Him After this event, the Scriptures say that He “kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men” - Luke 2:52 In the Jewish community today, when a boy reaches puberty (around the age of thirteen)
He may have become a responsible adult earlier than twenty, but by then he had no excuse. God calls us to an appropriate and excellent standard: His. To be a man is to fully own your roles as an adult, husband, father, employee, neighbor, and any other role you choose to undertake. |
2013-10-10 - Resolve to Lead Your Marriage Do you realize that as the leader of your home? We must take courage and always be willing to make the first move, God has put something into men that longs to be courageous. The idea of 50/50 leadership is a farce that creates two heads and two directions. History is littered with self-centered men who have dominated, belittled, ignored, and abused their wives in the name of male leadership. Jesus, God’s Son was the most powerful leader of all time Lead your wife by serving her well. |
2014-01-25 - Bless Your Children We need to boldly redefined success for them = “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” - Deuteronomy 6:5 1. God’s Word must “be on your heart.” Must always tell them how God is moving:
Every day gives you fresh, new material for making your life with Christ a front-row experience 2. Training your children to love God must occur within the context of close relationships. Talk about God is informal time:
Making disciples of all nations begins with your own children - it all starts with their hearts.
|
2014-02-11 - Loss of Heart Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger - Ephesians 6:4 If we lose their hearts, we lose everything. |
2014-05-30 - Genesis 24 - Search for the Bride of Isaac (part I)SummaryAbraham's servant went to Nahor to find a wife for Isaac. ObservationsGenesis 24:1 - The Lord blessed him every way Genesis 24:8 - But under no circumstances are you to take my son there ApplicationI am convicted by the way Abraham chose to approach challenging situations. He did not chose the easy way or the first way that sounded right. He chose to be faithful and had a conviction to allow God's promises to fulfilled in his life. I did not mediate and pray through the challenges set before very often. Many times I just say or do the first things that comes to my mind. Those are often thoughts of the easy way or only way to go about things. I need to think about the bigger picture when making decisions. PrayerPraying for heart of disernment and faithfulness in life's challenging situations. |
2014-05-31 - Genesis 24 - Search for the Bride of Isaac (part II)SummaryEliezer met Rebekah by the well exactly as he had prayed. ObservationsGenesis 24:12 - Please give me success today ApplicationI do not have the dependant prayer I need to have. I have many failures because I depend on myself and do not ask God. |
2015-02-11 - Lead By Example Everyone must turn from their evil ways and stop all their violence - Jonah 3:7-8 The biggest enemy of godly leaders is not leading by example Leading by example has always been one of a leader's greatest goals
Jonah warned the Ninevites of God's coming judgement and wrath Their king responded by instructing his people to:
...in hopes that God would change his minds and spare the city The king of the Ninevites humility and leading by example saved his city from judgement and wrath When you do as you say in life, you make it far easier for everyone around you to do the same |
2015-03-05 - Negative Example Diotresphes refuses to have anything to do with us and has evil accusation against us - 3 John 1:9-10 Diotresphes was a gifted man interested in moving himself up the church's pecking order Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant - Matthew 20:26 John did not beat around the bush: don't let this bad example influence you, only follow what is good - 3 John 1:11 Diotresphes' me-first mentality put him last in God's scheme of things |
2015-03-22 - Show Compassion Jesus: He sent them out to tell everyone about the kigdom of God and to heal the sick - Luke 9:1-2 He didn't just want them to just show people the good news of salvation but also to tell them about it as well Jesus was the example of the One who struck a perfect balance between good works and effective words He spoke the message that fueled his acts of compassion That same message - people need today to both see and hear! What compassion or help do people around you need the most? What good news do they need to hear? |
2015-03-24 - Opposition Sanballat was very angery when he learned that we were rebuilding the wall. "What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they're doing?" - Nehemiah 4:1-2 Spiritual opposition often confirm that you are headed in the right direction in your life of faith Nehemiah endured this kind of opposition as he worked to rebuild the ruined city walls around Jerusalem Sanballat did everything he could to thwart Nehemiah's work
The main question is not whether such opposition will appear but how you will respnd when it arrives Will you choose discouragement or strengthen your sense of resolve? |
2015-03-25 - Hope Jeremiah: Great is his faithfullness and his mercies begin afresh each morning - Lamentations 3:22-24 He surveyed th ruins of the once great city of Jerusalem Jeremiah saw death and destruction all around and felt a pain we can only imagine He found it within himslef to speak to his one Source of hope Jeremaih recognized God had granted him life and could hope for better things from the hand of his heavenly Father Where do you place your hope when you or loved ones encounter pain and difficulty? |
2015-04-07 - Clear Conscience I will maintain my innocence without wavering. My conscience is clear fpr as long as I live - Job 27:6 How oftern do we long for a quiet conscience when what we really need is a clean conscience? Job did a quick personal inventory - He had a completely clean conscience Though Job didn't know why he was suffering, he knew that it hadn't come as a result of sin God called Job "blameless" a man of complete integrity - John 1:8 Do you enjoy a clean conscience? Are you at peace with God? with the people around you? |
2015-05-06 - Standing In They lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus - Mark 2:4 Four men demonstrated compassion by going to extraordinary lengths to get the lamed man We can only imagine their thoughts and conversation with people around them Sometimes a man's words count a great deal less than what they do for someone else The four men did not ask Jesus for anything for themselves - acted out of willingness to stand for someone who couldn't stand for himself |
2015-05-10 - Cure for Disappointment Didn't our hearts burns within us as he talked with us - Luke 24:32 If I look at myself, I am depressed When Jesus died, as the disciples saw it, all hope for a better life was gone At just the right moment, Jesus reveal himself to them When he disappeared from their sight, he took with him the pain, despair, and disappointment When you face situations that leave you feeling despressed, disappointed, and discouraged, look to Jesus |
2015-05-14 - Know Your Identity Give us a king to judge us like the other nations have - 1 Samuel 8:5 God wanted Israel to be different from any other kingdom on earth Israel's elders wanted Samuel to give them a human king so they could fit in with the pagan nations God: "it's me they are rejecting, not you. They don't want me to be their king any longer" - 1 Samuel 8:7-8 Samuel did as God had told him as warned the people of the consequences of rejecting their true king When Israel's elders looked at the nations around them, they lost sight of their own identity Things were never the same for the name Whom do you trust to guide and lead you in every area of your life?
|
2015-05-22 - Infectious Enthusiasm Phinehas has turned my anger away from the Isrealites by being as zealous among them as I was - Numbers 25:10 Phinehas had seen the immorality going on around him and could not stand idly by and allow his people tp defile themselves Neither could he allow God judgement to continue without trying to bring it to an end His last straw momenet was when he witnessed his Hebrew brother shamelessly taking a Midianite into his tent Phinehas' zeal kicked in and passionately executed the man From then on, he showed his willingness to take a stand and the people of Israel were spared and decendants received God's blessings - Numbers 25:12-13 When you are enthusiastic about your relationship with God, you are bound to affect the people around you |
2015-05-23 - Influence from Within Never before had there been a king like Josiah who turned to the Lord will all his heart and soul and strength - 2 Kings 23:25 Josiah did what was pleasing to the Lord's sight - 2 Kings 22:2 His background did not set him up for greatness - his father was a wicked king that drug Judah into idolity For Josiah, it wasn't a matter of where he had come from but where he was headed:
Making a difference in the lives of people around you begins with changes within yourself |
2015-06-18 - Evangelism One-on-One We have found the Messiah; Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus - John 1:41-42 Not everyone get to preach to a mass audience but everyone can make a difference in the lives of people around them This is where Andrew got his start before the Book of Acts When Andrew first meet Jesus and realized his identity, he couldn't contain his excitement - he had to tell someone Andrew's one simple act of inviting his brother Peter forever changed his life and the life of millisons who would come to faith in Jesus Christ through Peter's life It isn't about your training or credentials but tell others you have found the Messiah! |
2015-07-11 - Share the Joy Jethro was delighted when he heard about all the good things the Lord had done - Exdous 18:9 Paul: "be happy with those who are happy" - Romans 12:15 Jethro, Moses' friend, celebrated with the people of Israel: "Praise the Lord, for he had rescued you from the Egyptians - Exodus 18:10 He immedidately blessed those around him with words of praise The same thing can happen when you share in another's joy over God's kindness and blessing
|
2015-07-27 - Intimacy with God He wasn't aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the Lord - Exodus 34:29 You can not hide a personal encounter with God Moses had spent 40 days and nights in God's presence, like talking with his best freind Spending hours of quality time with someone is bound to change you Parts of the other person's character, convictions, and even appearance rub off on you The people would never again see Moses in the same light How much intimate time you regularly spend with God? When personal encounters with are your priority, those around you can't help but see its positive effects on you |
2015-08-03 - Interruptions Soldiers forced a passerby name Simon to carry Jesus' cross - Mark 15:21 It is important to be ready when God send you an interruption for the good of another person Jesus was exhausted:
Simon was a jewish pilgrim from north African city of Cyrene (now Libya) Hundreds of thousands traveled to Jerusalem annually to honor God in the Passover celebration The Roman centurion didn't have time to wait for Jesus to gather his strength Simon carried a part of Jesus' burden that morning that not even his disciples were around to caryy Are you ready and willing to bear the burden God asks you to carry? |
2015-08-09 - Just Like You Whay are you doing this? We are merely human beings - just like you! - Acts 14:15 Paul and his missionary companion Barnabas demonstrated an attitude of humility and tolerance as they faced sin in the city of Lystra When they healed a cripped man, Paul and Barnabas watched in horror as the people began to worship them They did respond to the people in anger or disgust - rather they continued to love these sinners them even though they hated the sin Paul and Barnabas sent a message that they were no better than anyone else - all of them together were sinners saved by God's grace What kind of message are you sending to those around you? |
2015-08-10 - True Leader An elder... an honorable position - 1 Timiothy 3:1 Timothy faced the daunting responsibility of picking the right leaders for his congregation Paul instructed Timothy to look for leaders with:
Timothy understood that God had called all believers to live by a higher standard than the world around them Being a church leader means consistently demonstrating the kind of character worthy of being emulated |
2015-08-27 - What Goes Around God had paid me back for what I did to them - Judge 1:7 We always reap what we sow or what goes around, comes around Adoni-bezek enjoyed some success as a king and military leader - he took captive of 70 nearby kings Then he went overboard by mistreating his captives:
When the armies of the tribes of Judah and Simeon, attacked and took Adoni-bezek into custody They cut off Adoni-bezek's thumbs and big toes and died If you want to reap kindness and love, then sow them in your every word and action |
2015-10-11 - Strong Foundation For days I mourned, fasted, and prayed to God of heaven - Nehemiah 1:4 Nehemiah learned the dilapidated walls around Jerusalem had left the Jewish residents vulnerable to attack What did he do? Nothing but talk to God about the crisis He offered the kind of prayer that GOd delights in answering:
Nehemiah didn't rush into the task before first pleading for God's favor - Nehemiah 1:5-11 |
2018-04-06 - The Narrowness of Jesus - Focus (part III) We try to give to many causes and the result is we have little joy in our giving Not only was Jesus joyful but he was mighty He stayed in Palestine and kept his heart close to a few chosen hearts - became increasingly influential He made himself mighty by limiting himself The difference between a mighty river and a swap is the river has banks (boundries) What is success? It is to do the thing we were created to do He was only 33 years old - yet he did the greatest piece of work ever accoumplished on the earth The "fine" in fine arts is the because of the limitations which they impose |
