2010-12-10 - Mission - With You Always One of the last things Jesus said to assure his disciples, I am with you always - Matthew 28:20 Same message given to those who were:
Do you want to share because you will asked about it or because He will be with you? If we could truely grasp the significance of Jesus being with you - radically change the face of evangelism We are commanded to preach whether we want to or not - 1 Corinthians 9:17 Jesus reminded Paul that He was with him and that is all Paul needed When we find ourselves timid, we need to remind ourselves who is with us |

2011-02-10 - Fearing God - Glorious Truth (part III) Wisdom is commonly defined as good judgment In the Bible, it also has a strong ethical content Example The Lord abhors dishonest scales, but accurate weights are his delights - Proverbs 11:1 Honest is the best policy in business Biblical wisdom always factors God into the equation
It is essentially self-serving Example Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil - Proverbs 15:16-17 This kind of wisdom can only come from the Lord All levels of our society base their supposed happiness on their ability to acquire the possession they want |

2011-07-29 - Fearing God - Infinitely Greater Than Nations Isaiah 40:15 surely same as behold Isaiah is saying "Think of this!" and stop and consider and ponder A bucket of water is something a drop is nothing Imagine going to the grocery store to pick up some fruit Once you go through the checkout line and saying "Please wipe the dust off, I don't want to pay for the dust" The concern seems absurd - that is how God sees the nations This is not to say nations are not imposing on a human level - just shows how infinitely greater God is Isaiah 40:16 - all the cedars in Lebanon would not enough for burnt offering Shifts of 10,000 men at a time were involved in cutting trees and floating to Israel's cost This still was not enough to be worthy of the dignity and greatness of God Isaiah 40:17 - Nation as seen before God:
His greatness no one can fathom - Pslams 145:3 We can never comprehend Him but only bow in awe and adoration before Him |
2011-09-05 - Fearing God - Great Thoughts About God If you want to fear God - every aspect of your day-to-day must dominated by thoughts of God Takes work to do this, you won't grow other wise - 1 Timothy 4:7 It is not enough to just stand in awe of God as we read about Him It should be part of out thinking The sophisticated discoveries comes from when man thinks using God's thoughts
Great thoughts about God will lead us to a realistic thoughts about ourselves
The Lord delights in those who fear Him and does not trust in man - Psalms 147:10-11 |
2011-10-04 - Genesis 4 - Cain Murders AbelSummaryEve's sons made offerings to God. Only Abel's was acceptable, so Cain killed him. Abel's blood cried out and God sent Cain away. ObservationsGenesis 4:7 - if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door Personal ApplicationI wonder sometimes if I have my "ringer" loud enough for me to hear when God calls. A lot of times I look back on important events in my life and realize that I missed another lesson God was trying to teach me but I was not listening. I feel embarrassed that I was so selfish during that times. I want to listen voice from God more intensely. |
2011-10-19 - Genesis 19 - Sodom is destroyedSummaryAngels took Lot out of Sodom. The city was destroyed by fire and Lot's wife was turned to salt. His daughters had children for him. ObservationsGenesis 19:14 - But his sons-in-law thought he was joking Personal ApplicationBy nature, I am a jokester. I have love to laugh - there is a time for everything. I need to learn how to take the important things seriously. When I hear a call from God to repent, not sure my immediate reaction is to change. I make excuses about doing things in the near future or lie to myself that I am doing OK. The costs are too great not to hear and obey the call. |
2011-11-14 - Mind Change - God can handle it With God, there is no straw that breaks the camel's back. You may think, “I can’t take one more thing.” But with God you always can. You can take whatever he allows life to bring. He will always be enough. Psalms 34:17-19 - LORD delivers him from them all 1 Peter 5:10-11 - He will himself restore you and make you strong |
2011-11-16 - Mind Change - Grace God always gives the next grace for the next step. It may look bigger than any you have taken before, but if he calls you to take it, his grace will be sufficient. The challenges that are coming up may be greater than any you have faced, but God will always be enough. Judges 6:14 - Go in the strength you have 2 Corinthians 1:10 - We have set our hope on him that he will deliver us yet again |
2011-11-28 - Gratitude (part I) The topic of gratitude is extremely important and one that we probably don’t stress enough. As a new disciple you want to get into some good habits of gratitude. Being thankful to God for your salvation is really just the beginning. Being grateful for every situation you find yourself in is the goal. In the study, we will look at God’s call be thankful. Gratitude is a commandment of God

2011-12-16 - Day 13 - Saved to Serve Matthew 25:31-46
Application: Who can you help today? Do it. Also, make plans with another disciple to help other needy people this week. |
2012-01-11 - Day 39 - Faith is the Victory Mark 2:1-12
Application: What are some things in your life (or someone's) for which you really need God's help? Keep a prayer list and keep on praying! |
2012-01-15 - Ministry - The Generator of Power John 15:1-7; Mt 7:7-12; Luke 18:1-8 Prayer generates the power in a disciple's life. Without prayer, there is no power, no relationship with God, and no expectation of miracles. Prayer connects us to God's heart and reveals to us God's will. We can be afraid to pray because we think God will test us by not answering our prayers. James chapter 1 tells us that trials test our faith not unanswered prayer. We begin to pray with unbelief in our hearts and no expectation of answered prayer in our minds. God does not always answer when WE want Him to but He will answer. It is up to us to persevere and mature long enough to receive the answer. God desires to give us whatever we wish as long as we remain in relationship with Him. God is a merciful and loving God. He wants to bless us and encourage us. Generations of powerful men and women have walked before us in real relationship with God. They witnessed incredible answers to prayer. God has not changed since then. He is willing to answer; are you willing to pray? Pray with Passion Pray with Expectation Pray with Specificity Pray with Boldness Pray with Perseverance What three things will you pray about until they are answered, no matter how long it takes? |
2012-01-27 - Ministry - Do You Stand Up For Jesus? Matthew 14:1-12 These verses show clearly two different convictions. Herod was swayed by his sin to do even greater sin and John the Baptist never gave in to fear about confronting Herod with his sin of adultery. John the Baptist could have been fearful about confronting a king on his sin. Obviously it bothered Herod's conscience enough that he wanted John killed. Herod had a people-pleasing, weak-willed character because in vs. 5 he did not kill John for fear of the people. He also then had John Killed because of Herodias' influence. What is your character more like-people-pleasing or God pleasing? Pray to have a conscience today that convicts you to stand up for what is right and not give into pleasing others. |
2012-02-03 - Ministry - A Righteous Response Mark 11:15-17, John 2:15,16 How does Jesus deal with anger? I know many of us, consider Jesus' response to the temple being used for a marketplace as an example of righteous anger. However, I studied eight different translations and the scriptures never state "Jesus got angry. John records that Jesus "made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area. It is hard to imagine myself doing this without harshness and anger but I did not conclude that Jesus was harsh or mean. In Mark 11:17 it simply says that he next "taught them". In John, the disciples saw his actions as "zeal" and when confronted by the Pharisees he answered their questions with profound teaching. This was not a man out of control while responding to mistreatment of his Father's house. Jesus was very God-focused in the way he dealt with the emotion of anger. In Mark 3:5,6 the scripture points out that Jesus was angry "at their stubborn hearts" because they could not respond to his questions due to evil intentions in their hearts. Jesus was angry. How did he deal with it? Further study indicates Jesus combined anger with being/feeling: "deeply distressed. His next response was to heal a man with a shriveled hand and to teach us all an amazing lesson about how deeply God cares for us. WOW! I'm not like Jesus when I get angry, how about you? Challenge:

2012-02-08 - Ministry - One Thing Mark 10:17-22 Can you imagine having a little one on one time with Jesus? What do you think you would ask? What would he say? If Jesus was to challenge you on something in your life, what do you think it would be? He did have a similar conversation with a rich man in Mark 10:17-22 and the rich man asked a pretty important question, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus responds with emphasizing obedience to the commands, and the rich man insists that he has been obedient to those Jesus spoke of. Then Jesus tells him, "one thing you still lack," he said, "go sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." So, what was the rich man missing? What did he still lack? Was it a love for the poor? Was he not sacrificial enough? Was it that he loved money too much? I think he was simply ungrateful. Study out the following passages and see for yourself if it something that Jesus might have to talk with you about in your one on one time today!

2012-02-13 - Ministry - Are You Willing to Keep Praying? Luke 18:1-8 Jesus tells this parable to show us something. The scriptures even go so far as to tell us exactly what that something is that we should always pray and not give up. Have you ever decided to pray about a specific situation and not stopped until it has changed? What if it took a year to change? Five years? Ten years? Twenty years? Jesus says to never give up! Too often we get discouraged and want to quit-even on God-because something doesn't change. Maybe we haven't been fruitful for a while or we don't have a dating relationship yet. Maybe things have not changed in our marriage fast enough or our job situation is still not working out. Maybe we are just not changing our hearts the way we should. The answer is not to give up but to keep on praying. Jesus ends the parable questioning whether there would still be faith on earth when he returns. Our lack of prayer is a sign of a lack of faith! To keep praying and not give up is a sign of great faith. Write down three things you have quit praying about and recommit yourself to be faithful in prayer. Decide to trust. God and be in the kingdom for the long haul-no matter how many decades of prayer it takes!! |
2012-02-16 - Fear of Failure - God Will Give Us the Grace We Need to Succeed by Sean Kiluk, San Francisco Church of Christ 2 Corinthians 9:8 God will give us all the grace we need to be successful in whatever role he has put us in. He did not put us where we are to fail, but to rely on him for success. Our problems come when we value success and praise more than knowing God. God forgives us, and he loves us even though we fail or sin. His love is unconditional. We need to have confidence in God's grace in everything. We will fail at times, but God has enough grace to ensure a victory in the end. Decisions:

2012-02-18 - Fear of Failure - Letting Problems and Failures Build Your Faith by Tracey Jones, San Francisco Church of Christ Romans 4:18-22; Jeremiah 29:11; Romans 5:1-6 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us--they help us learn to endure. And endurance develops strength of character in us. Romans 5:3-4 (NLT) I think as a non-Christian, I was the most anxious, controlling person in the world. I remember I would have almost every minute of my life planned out from beginning to end. Although it helped me to be disciplined and to achieve goals, it stopped me from letting people into my heart. I was always the strong one to my friends and family…"the rock". They saw all the successful things on the outside, but they didn't see the desperate, feeble person I was inside. When I began to work with people, it was very difficult for me, because I had no control whatsoever over them. That lack of control began to crush me. Now I see that God is using my problems and failures to encourage me to grow. He is telling me the little that I know is not enough - I need to keep growing and changing and developing into the person He wants me to be. One decision I have made when I have problems in my ministry, marriage, or family is to pray about them and to commit them fully to God. Now, instead of giving in to thoughts like “I can't change that woman's heart, I pray specifically about what I need help with and have confident expectation of what God will do. This has brought much more joy to my marriage, ministry, and life. What is stealing your joy? Could it be that you are letting problems and situations dictate your life? Decide today to commit those things to prayer and ask God to give you increasing character to deal with your life. |
2012-02-27 - Fear of Failure - God Encourages Those Who Fail by Yvonne San Juan - Ministry Intern: San Francisco Church of Christ 1 Kings 19:1-9 Elijah felt like a complete failure. He was tired of running, alone, and so discouraged that he preferred death. Elijah had just been a part of a great victory where God demonstrated his power to the people and they saw rain for the first time in many years. He faced a new challenge as the Queen wanted to kill him, and he ran away. God didn't let Elijah fail; he encouraged Elijah with food and rest. God reminded him there were others that were faithful to God and Elijah was not alone. God enabled Elijah to keep on going when Elijah felt like he had had enough. Through failure, I have learned to call to God in prayer, and to be completely honest with Him, just like Elijah. I have also decided to be completely open about my struggles with my friends, and to not go through my failures alone. Also, reading about godly people who have failed in the Bible has given me hope and encouragement during the hard times that when I fail, God still loves me. |
2013-04-19 - The Strength of Jesus (part II) The people were ashtonished by Jesus Who do I you say I am? They had to go to the grave in order to find a man to whom they could liken him No man in Jesus' day was great enough to convey their idea of strength Pilot was afraid of Jesus even though He was a poor unarmed peasant Proof of His power was in the intensity of the hatred and in the intensity of love which he excited You can not hate a weakling or a no body He was so mightly that when men thought of him, they thought of God |

2014-05-31 - Genesis 24 - Search for the Bride of Isaac (part II)SummaryEliezer met Rebekah by the well exactly as he had prayed. ObservationsGenesis 24:12 - Please give me success today ApplicationI do not have the dependant prayer I need to have. I have many failures because I depend on myself and do not ask God. |
2015-02-01 - Ask for Directions Give us more instructions about this - Judges 13:8 Angel appeared to Manoah's wife to tell her a special son was coming and laid out the ground rules Men stereotypically have a storng resistance for directions We try to please our wives when we only need to ask Does anything in your walk with Christ make you wonder which way to turn? |
2015-02-17 - Behind the Scenes Epaphroditus is a true brother, coworker, and fellow solier and he was your messenger - Philippians 2:25-26 Fans of sports don't pay enough attention to know the names of the players who do the little things to make their team successful The same things is true of believers who do the little things necessary to make the church function Ask anyone who is Epaphroditus is and most believers can not identify him Although Epaphroditus remains relative obscure due to his brief mention in the Bible, Paul considered him an important part of the ministry Many believers play key behind-the-scenes roles, we may not know their name but their impact is eternal |

2015-03-02 - From the Mountaintop I am no better than my ancestors who have already died - 1 Kings 19:4 At times, God takes us to a emotional mountaintip and then drops us into a darker time in the valley Elijah had just successfully
Just days after, Jezebel vowed to kill him for killing the prophets of Baal Elijah could have stayed and trusted God to protect him but instead headed to the woods and poured out his heart to God He had gone from the mountaintop of faith to the valley of depression Elijah confessed the he had enough and wanted to die but God wanted to talk it though God will give you just what you need to continue your life of faith |
2015-04-12 - Honest Examination Those who humbel themselves will be exalted - Luke 18:14 We need a regular spiritual checkups to assess our relationship with God Jesus told a story of self-righteous Pharisee who had no idea of his desparate spiritual sickness and the tax collector who, after some painful soul-searching found himself in desparate need of mercy and forgiveness True confession before God means being honest enough to admit who you really are and humble enough to understand you can never earn God's forgiveness |
2015-04-26 - Delegation Why are you trying to do all this alone? - Exodus 18:14 A wise man learns from the mistakes of others. Nobody lives long enough to make them all himself. Moses filled hs plate to overflowing - working from dawn to dusk This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself - Exodus 18:17-18 Jethro's advice: Slow down and let someone who feared and loved God do a part of the work As a priest of Midian and successful businessman, Jethro had a lot of wisdom to share Your mistakes can be put to good use by encouraging others to not repeat them |
2015-05-16 - Need Faith? What do you mean "If I can"? Anything is possible if a person believes - Mark 9:23 At times, we need some assurance before we can take a leap of faith The unnamed fatherhad seen Jesus' disciples fail miserably at cast ou the eveil spirit and wondered if the Master could do anything for him Jesus fully intended to heal the boy but first dealt with the man's doubts Though this may may not had enough faith to completely believe, Jesus could help him If you want God to do great things in your life, you will need faith; don't be afraid to ask |
2015-06-14 - Assurance Today you will be with me in paradise - Luke 23:43 The criminal knew Jesus had the power to heal but also knew everyone will die eventually He asked for something for the eternity and he faith about it The man also knew something better could be waiting for him if he could just muster enough strength to speak to Jesus With only minutes to live, this condememned criminal came to know in a short time he would hear the same voice welcoming him into an eternal home on the other side

2015-07-05 - Bottomline Wisdom My final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone's duty - Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 There is in hte heart of every man a God-shaped void Solomon had it all, but he eventually concluded that those things were not enough - which amounted to exactly nothing His life was empty Solomon asked God for wisdom and became the wisest man who ever lived Despite God's warnings, Solomon drifted from the Lord and turned to other gods Without God, life amounts to nothing but birth, lots of hard work, and death When you make Jesus Christ central to everything, even everyday events have meaning and significance |
2015-07-18 - Don't Panic Paul urged everyone to eat; you have not touched food for two weeks - Acts 27:33 When problems arise and overwhlm us, are we tempted to "fly off the handle" or panic? A vicious storm slammed Paul's boat and conviced even seanoned sailors they were going to die Paul had been through enough in his life of faith to know God would allow him to complete his appoined mission without dying. God promised not a hair on their head will perish during the trip We can find peace knowing nothing happens to us unless our heavenly Father allows it Our situations may not be easy or fun but God still remains in control |
2015-07-24 - Seeing Is Believing He healed my eyes and yet you don't know where he comes from? - John 9:30 The Jewish reglious leaders constantly opposed his and couldn't see past their own legalism and tradition long enough to see the miracle The blind man and others understood who Jesus was because he witnessed the miracles with open minds and hearts Jesus demonstarted God's power, the man did as Jesus said, and receive the gift of sight:
The Jewish leaders took issue to Jesus "working" on the Sabbath Ex-blind man: If this man were not from God, he couldn't have done it - John 9:33 When we receive spiritual insight that changes our lives, we need to tell others what God has done - we were blind but now we see! |
2015-08-19 - Called to Stand You know the evil these people are, "Make us gods who will lead us" - Exodus 32:22-23 Aaron had a opportunity to stand up for God - he failed He had been with Moses long enough to know better God had commanded the Israelies not to make themselves any kind of idol - Exodus 20:4-5 Aaron could not find within himself to stand up to the people and claimed to be an innocent bystander He failed both when he buckled under the pressure of the people as well as taking responsibility for his part of the sin |
2015-08-22 - Costly Unbelief You will see it happen with your own eyes but you won't be able to eat any of it - 2 KIngs 7:2 God generously give to those who are willing to ask him and beileve him for what they need Nothing keeps God from blessing people quite like unbelief Samaria's people suffered a terrible famine follwoing the Aramites invasion The desparate king sent his officer to ask Elisha to do something Elisha said within one day there would be more than enough flour and barley for everyone - 2 Kings 7:1 The king's officer just couldn't believe it even if the Lord opened the heavens He was dead wrong and when it came down, the officer could not enjoy any of it In what areas of your life do you need to take God at his word? |
2015-08-30 - Show Appreciation They have been providing the help you weren't here to give me - 1 Corinthians 16:17 Paul made a practice of giving and receiveing appreciation He took time to praise Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus - Corinthian believers who traveled out of their way to encourage and assist Paul in his ministry This was important enough to Paul he didn't just suggest that people show their appreciation - he commanded it Paul: You must show your appreciation to all who serve so well Why not thank people who make your life better? You will be blessed when you offer your thanks and so will they |
2015-09-06 - Place in the Body Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you - Colossians 4:17 Church on Sunday morning, do you recongnize that God has a specific purpose and ministry for you that day? Don't miss out on the blessing you can receive when you assume your place of service in the body of Christ Archippus' ministry was apparently important enough to the apostle Paul that he encouraged the young man to make sure he got the job done:
God has given you a particular ministry and the gifts it takes to effectively carry it out. Are you pursuing your role in the church with all of your heart? |
2015-10-01 - You'll See Leave your native country and go to the land I will show you - Genesis 12:1 God didn't give Abram a lot of details - Leave your lifelong home for the land I will show you He promised Abram to be a father of a great nation and the entire earth would be blessed through him - Genesis 12:2-3 There had to have been questions:
Abram went without questioning God or asking for signs He believed God enough to step out in obedience and helped bring the salvation we enjoy into the world

2020-01-20 - Trust - A matter of perpective "Trust in God" can seem easy at times but when trouble hits, justice seems dead and love seems to vanish, many are appalled nature's "heartlessness" and "indifference" Jesus saw these same situations as evidences of God's love, his long-suffering patience, and willing to allow the lost to find him Countless people trusted God only to discover when evil fotune came, that trust was not as strong enough to stand the shock Trust shapes perpective Many things can blot out our trust in God:
Jesus had all of the dark experiences it is possible to have He has a message to commicate that would drive away gloom and woe the world to him Jesus trust was unbroken despite many rejections and even his own men forsaking him His death appeared to be a heart-breaking failure, but rather a victorious outcome for us |
2024-01-15 - Intro (part IV) Included in the greatest commandment is: love the Lord with all of your MIND Belief is both a matter of faith but also of will Sometimes we just want things to be true - this could be said for both Christian (something to rely on) and non-believer (changes in life required) There is a difference between proving and accepting Christianity The point of open mindedness is to find the truth when it comes along; God has given us enough evidence to see him without comprising our faith or our free will |
