2012-02-23 - Fear of Failure - God Always Sees the Humble Heart by Gene Kim - Ministry Intern: San Francisco Church of Christ 1 Kings 21 Ahab really wanted Naboth's vineyard, and so he was willing to do anything to get it. He kept on sinning until he got the vineyard - discouragement, self-pity, anger, and eventually murder. There are "vineyards" in everyone's lives nowadays, jobs, relationships, or successes. Ahab was so consumed with what he wanted that his marriage was ungodly. I see how I don't lead my wife because I get consumed with my job and success, and my relationship with God goes the same way as my marriage. I get so guilty that I lose confidence in how God can use my life. What encourages me about this scripture is how God uses people to confront others with the truth and how He is hoping for people to humble themselves and turn back to Him. Ahab was described as a man who "sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord" (v. 25). Elijah warned Ahab of the impending disaster because of his sin. Ahab took God's warning seriously and humbled himself before God, and the Lord noticed and blessed him! I can feel at times that I have messed up so much that God would never believe in me again, and yet God is merely looking for a heart that is humble, broken, and grateful. He hopes that I would have the courage to see my sin. God notices and moves on behalf of a humble heart! |
2012-02-24 - Fear of Failure - When We Don't Meet Expectations by Maritza Kim - Ministry Intern: San Francisco Church of Christ Jeremiah 1:4-10 To me, "failure" has meant not living up to expectations--either what I expect of myself or what others expect of me. In my pride, I get angry when my weakness is exposed, and I see how ill equipped I am to face a certain task or spiritual battle. Instead of trusting in God and turning to him to strengthen me, give me wisdom, and make me able, I get a quitter's mentality. I decide that because I am not already able, I will take myself out so I no longer have to face my failure. I decide to take the easy road, where I can be "successful" and no longer feel the pressure to change the core sin in my character. In this scripture, I learn that God has had a destiny for our lives. God has known me since 'before I was in the womb.' He knows the stuff I'm made of. He knows what I am weak in and what I can and can't do. Yet he has still called me to serve him in awesome ways, and to do it with all my heart. He has appointed me to serve him, and that needs to be my focus. If I am focused on my daily relationship with him, get humble and open about my failures, and if I serve him with all my heart, he will fulfill the destiny he has for my life! Three Decisions I've Made

2012-02-26 - Fear of Failure - God is in Control by Amy Kim - Ministry Intern: San Francisco Church of Christ Hebrews 3:7-19 Failure is just a time of testing. We harden our hearts, rebel and give up or we can have faith, be humble and move on. When I fail the first thing that happens is my pride gets hurt because I always think that I am in control or that I can do it. But God allows me to experience failure to remind me that I can't do it all. God is the only one who can. The question is whether I am as happy and excited about life when I fail as when I am successful. The only way I can do that is trust that God is in control. All I need is to do is trust him to do it, be willing to humble out and be surrendered, acknowledging that I can't do it at all. Decisions:

2012-10-02 - Prayer of the Righeous - God is Crawling (part I) God humbled and dirtied himself just to search for one lost soul - you
Some feel distant from him because of our sin but God is desperately looking for us - Luke 15:8 |
2013-01-01 - Prayer of the Righeous - God is a Consuming Fire (part I) God is a consuming fire who should be feared - Hebrews 12:29 He is God who wants us to love him and not idols - Deuteronomy 4:24 God is a blessed and only Ruler, king of kings and lord of Lords - 1 Timothy 6:15 Our problem is that we think God is like us Societies throughout history have developed their own relgions based off God's which human resemblance:
Our Father is without blemish or stain The paradox of God: He says to not be afraid but at the same time to have a humble, contrite spirit - Isaiah 66:2

2013-06-25 - Why we need men of resolution (part II) Our relationship with our father is very telling as to why we are and who we are. “What does my dad really think about me?” Lots of fathers don’t realize their vital role. Many issues come from fathers having lost their sense of purpose. Society is guiding boys to remain boys as long as possible— extending childhood into their thirties—while forcing girls to become women long before they are ready. Millions of young men are staying single. They want the privileges and rewards of manhood but only the responsibilities and moral requirements of boys. God has a special place in His heart for two specific groups of people: fatherless children and widows. Dad have good intention but there many things working against them:
Devil will never stop attacking what God prioritizes. |
2013-09-24 - A Man Recognizes His Accountability Having no accountability always leads to irresponsibility One day we will stand before God one day and be held accountable for how we lived Our actions not only have immediate consequences but eternal ones as well:
This is wired into our consciences and confirmed throughout His Word Everything in a man’s thinking changes when he realizes that he is only one heartbeat from standing before the Lord Do you know for certain where you will spend eternity after you die? Preparing for that day is why we should become accountable to one another Here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man - Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 Accountability dynamically helps make us into men - humble, wise, responsible, faithful men. |
2013-10-10 - Resolve to Lead Your Marriage Do you realize that as the leader of your home? We must take courage and always be willing to make the first move, God has put something into men that longs to be courageous. The idea of 50/50 leadership is a farce that creates two heads and two directions. History is littered with self-centered men who have dominated, belittled, ignored, and abused their wives in the name of male leadership. Jesus, God’s Son was the most powerful leader of all time Lead your wife by serving her well. |

2015-02-22 - Dependent Attitude Must we bring you water from this rock? - Numbers 20:10 Sometimes we say "I did the best I could" but instead, we should say "I should have called you sooner" An independent spirit often keeps us from doing our best Moses became a humble, obedient servant yet in a moment he lost everything that he had worked so hard to gain
His prideful self-reliance cost him the opportunity to lead them to the promised land. What would it mean for you to rely on God? |
2015-03-17 - Object Lesson You are his successor, yet you have not humble yourself - Daniel 5:22 Belshazzar, refused to learn from his grandfather's mistake Nebuchadnezzar long refused to bow before the Lord God humbled him by cause him to live like a wild animal Belshazzar dishonored God when he brought out gold cups from the temple for a drunken, idol-worshiping party Daniel explained to him, hos days as king had come to an end - Daniel 25:30 It does not help to dwell in the past, but it is a good biblical idea to learn from it. 2015-04-27 - Pride By my own mighty power, I have built this beautiful city - Daniel 4:30 Breakdown of how much we learn from our senses:
Nebuchadnezzar was given a dream and Daniel told him what it meant - the king's pride would result in a severe bout of divine discipline Daniel begged the king to give up his pride so that God could relent God had given Nebuchadnezzar an opportunity to humble himself God immediately accounced that the king would no lose his kingdom and be sent out to live a wild animal Nebuchadnezzar had to learn the hard way from taste and smell of grass since could not learn from sight Are you teachable? When God speaks to you, take it to heart |
2015-05-13 - Wise and Humble Leadership He had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall - 2 Chronicles 26:16 It takes a man of true humility to keep his feet on the ground over the long haul when he is given power and authority over others Uzziah, Judah's tenth king, was not such a man His long and sometimes distinguished reign came to an unfortunate end because of his arrogant thirst for power Uzziah expressed his arrogance by entering the sactuary though this job was reserved for his priest Had Uzziah remained humble, he might have become one of the nation's greatest kings - instead, he spent his later years shut away from people in a leper colony Do you understand your place in the big picture? |
2015-05-21 - Opportunities to Speak You have abandoned me, so I am abandoning you to Shishak - 2 Chronicles 12:5 The Bible includes many examples of God sending men to free his people from their sin and rebellion Shemaiah to a message of freedom to his people - All that was required was for them to turn to God It was difficult message for Shemaiah to give such a message to his home country of Judah Shemaiah's willingness to speak God's message made a difference:
When you have the courage to give a difficult message to hear, you can make a difference in your world |
2015-05-25 - Suffering Servant All of us have strayed away - Isaiah 53:5 Jesus Christ was the perfect example of that kind of giving Isaiah saw this example of a humble, suffering servant from his own time He depicts a man who willingly subjected himslef to unspeakable suffering on the behalf of others How does Jesus' selfless giving motivate you? |
2015-06-02 - Desparate Faith Jairus fall at Jesus' feet, pleading with him for his dying daughter - Luke 8:41-42 Desparation has a way of making people forget about themselves and take unusual risks Jarius knew the risks when he fell at Jesus' feet:
He needed more than faith to come to Jesus, he needed courage Being a synagogue leader, he had access to the very best health care Jairus had one final hope - Jesus, he knew Jesus could heal his daughter The Savior who never turns down a humble man gave him exactly what he needed Where do you turn when you're in desparate need? |

2015-06-25 - Taking Stock Manasseh sought the Lord his God and sincerely humbled himself before the God of his ancestors - 3 Chronicles 33:12-13 Times of stress can motivate a man to do little self-examination Manasseh made sinning into personal art form:
God warned Manasseh that he would pay for his sins but he refused to listen Assyrian forces invaded Judah and took him away to Babylon for 12 years of suffering The once proud Manasseh humbled himself saying "The Lord alone is God!" |
2015-08-21 - Credentials I'm not a professional prophet but the Lord called me away from my flock and told me, 'Go and prophesy to my people in Israel' - Amos 7:14-15 Willingness may not impress some personnel managers but it is exactly God looks for in a servant Amos was a humble shepherd who also tended a grove of sycamore-fig trees He had something God values about professional credentials - willingness to follow and obey God gave him a message to preach and he preached it with enthusiasm Most people believe that they need training credentials to minister to others God cares most about your willingness to faithfully serve him |
2015-09-09 - Pride's Angry Partner Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage - Daniel 3:13 Anger can erupt from a lot of things but most commonly from pride The proud man tends to believe that he is owed something such as respect and admiration Nebuchadnezzar's arrogance knew no bounds and it show showed up when three men refused to bow down to his idol Like his anger, Nebuchadnezzar had Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego thrown into blazing-hot Uncontrolled pride turns into uncontrolable anger God used the situation to save his faithful and humble the proud If you want to keep anger from being a problem in your life, put a check on your pride |
2015-10-10 - True Humility I am humble and gentle at heart - Matthew 11:29 The apostles could see how genuinely humblr and gentle Jesus was Humility came from freely leaving heaven to take on human flesh so he might save all who come to him in faith Jesus never struck back at those who did him harm but called on his Father to forgive them He could expect them to be huble ad gentle because that is what he was like Some men do not consider humility as a strong quality to follow Humility was a quality of the strongest man who ever live, Jesus Christ |
2015-10-15 - Humble Response He refused to humble himself when the prophet Jeremiah spoke to him directly from the Lord - 2 Chronicles 36:11-12 Those who prefer to recieve nothing from God should pave their way with stubborn defiance Zedekiah ascended the throne at age 21 He refused to listen to the Lord's word as spoken by Jeremiah No man who maintains a stubborn attitude has ever done anything great for the Lord How might you change your future for the better by humbly listening to God? |
