Three Cs 
  1. How does this scripture challenge me?
  2. How can I critique my life from this scripture?
  3. What will I change from my study of this scripture? 
Preparation and Planning 
  1. Pray about your study – God will give you wisdom James 1:5
  2. Read
    1. Read once or twice without taking notes
    2. Read out loud, Bible was meant to be read out loud
  3. Read more than one translation
  4. Create a way making certain scriptures stand out
  5. Distinguish
    1. Form of the passage
    2. Key words and phrases
    3. Setting of the passage
    4. Anything that seems unusual or out of the ordinary
 
Be Teachable 
  1. Be open to learning from every situation in life. – Proverbs 6:6-11
  2. Be open to criticism from every person – Proverbs 12:1
  3. Listen attentively – Proverbs 18:13 (Being a good listener shows love)
  4. Learn to control angry reactions
  5. Be approachable
  6. Break the pride barrier – Proverbs 16:18; 29:23
  7. Always be on your guard against hardheartedness – Proverbs 4:23
  8. Seek advice from wise men – Proverbs 12:15; 15:22
  9. Take periods of time for self-examination and introspection
