Teen Leadership

December 13th, 2006

Be a friend to them.

You respond better to a friend too.

Love them.

Live it
            How will they remember you?
Are you taking them out to fish for men (teens)?
Tell stories of victories in the past to encourage them

Make them feel special
            Quality and Quantity equally important!

Have good communication with the parents
  • Quick turnaround:
    • As soon as you get the information share it with the teen and parents
    • If a parent calls, do not let more than 24 hours before calling them back
  • They need to know what is going on (Times, Details and Days) so they can be planning accordingly
  • They need to know what you are studying with them to watch how they respond to the Word.
  • Ask for their input. How is the teen responding? – They are their parents; they know their character better than you do!

Never assume anything! – Ask Questions:
  • How are your grades?
  • Who are you hanging with? Disciples? Non-disciples?
  • How was your quiet time this morning?
  • Are you happy?
  • What are your break/summer plans (where applicable)?
  • Purity!
  • Question relating to camp
  • Questions about contribution
Never give up!

Look at the big picture.

Be a good shepherd (even in fellowship):
  • Are they getting in trouble?
  • What are they doing?
  • What is going on?
  • Is someone alone?
  • Who needs encouragement?
  • Show they be talking that much?

Raise the roof – Break the mold!

Their energy level will usually not go above yours!
            Volume level?
Are you out of yourself? (Luke 9:23-24)
If you are not at least 15 minutes early you are late. (Be an example of eagerness in the fellowship)

Are you in style?

Do you dress like their parents?
            Are you in the 70s 80s 90s?
