Preparation

  1. Have a great time with God before you arrive at church.
  2. Read some passages on worship to set your mind for appropriate worship.
  3. Get open about any sin or situation that may be bothering you.
  4. Arrive at least 10-15 minutes early and encourage those already there.
  5. Bring your songbook and an extra one for a visitor.
  6. Bring your Bible and extra one for a visitor
  7. Bring something to take notes with
  8. Get a good night’s rest on Saturday and eat a decent breakfast in the morning – come with much energy
  9. Get up plenty early of Sunday morning so as not to be hurried in getting ready to come.
  10. Read books on worship occasionally to keep ideas fresh in your mind for great worship
  11. Have something specific in mind before you come that you want to focus on for communion
  12. Have a plan to encourage specific people in the fellowship

  1. Sit as close to the front as possible
  2. Sit next to someone – don’t leave space
  3. Follow the direction of the song leader – stop talking when he begins, clap if he does, but only if he does.
  4. Sing as loud as you possibly can (make a joyful noise).
  5. Look around at others as you sing and smile
  6. Follow along with anyone leading a prayer as closely as possible – repeat the words silently.
  7. Envision the angels being present all around the auditorium.
  8. Say ‘amen’ at the appropriate times and encourage those leading the worship.
  9. Pray silently throughout the worship for God to move in your heart as well as others.
  10. Focus as much as you can on the meaning of the words to every song
  11. Sit up straight during service, pay careful attention, and show respect.
  12. Don’t talk during the worship except at appropriate times
  13. Do your best to never get up and leave if at all possible.
  14. If kids are with you, sit toward the back and be sensitive to the fact they may be a distraction
