2009-03-06 - Promises of God - You Call, He Answers Call me and I'll answer - Psalms 91:14-16 I can help others when I am confident that God is listening to and responding to my prayers When we lose faith that our prayers will be answered, we lose heart and our relationship with God withers We may not always give us the answer we want; he always responds for our good We must see the answers he gives and never doubt that he loves us |
2009-03-07 - Promises of God - Lord of the Unexpected One of our greatest test of faith comes when we face the unexpected We forget Psalms 91 - His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart We often rely on our own understanding of situations and then ask God what we think we need It is important to let God give us the answer since he knows what is best for us This trouble you're in is not punishment, it's training, the normal experience of children - Hebrews 12:17

2009-08-26 - Wild at Heart - God loves wilderness (part 2) God’s relationship with us is risky We are unpredictable; there is the likelihood to get hurt (ultimate risk anyone ever takes is to love) God give love all the time (and gets hurt all the time) Music, wine, poetry, sunset – all his inventions God is romantic at heart Heart of man is drawn from God – strong and courageous love Have you noticed the most often word used with boys is 'don’t' –God’s design 'Yes' Sexes show different sides of God’s heart Heart of a woman – deep hearted, seductive more than fierce Wants to be loved Why don’t you choose Me? 'Seek and you will find me…with all of your heart' – Jeremiah 29:13 God wants to be wanted Why does God does not answer prayer right away? – he wants us to talk to him God has beauty to be unveiled Each stage of creation is better than before All Adam can say is “WOW” Women wants he beauty unveiled Do you delight in me? God wants to be worshiped |
2009-09-07 - Wild at Heart - The enemy fears you If you ever really got your heart back, lived from it with courage, you would be a huge problem to him Many men have not been shown how to fight from the heart. Failure of fathers and left men without direction If you want the wound healed and your strength restored and to find your true name, you re going to have to fight for it. Notice your reaction at these words. Does another come in and caution you to stop We need to know who we are and if we have what it takes A man’s core question does not go away We search for the answer of validation
|
2009-09-13 - Wild at Heart - False self (part 4) A masculine journey always takes a man away from the women, come back to with his question answered A man does not go to a woman to get his strength; he goes to her to offer it. Addiction comes when we have taken our soul to her for validation. What else are we looking for? God Adam had God God gave Adam Eve out of His humility Eve eventually took the place of God Adam was not deceived Time where Eve had fallen but Adam had not Adam choose Eve over God Men without his true love, God, will try to find another Why do you remain thirsty after you have had a drink… it is the wrong well In God will only find the true healing of the wound |
2009-09-18 - Wild at Heart - Healing the wound (part 4) Forgiveness is a choice Do not wait for the feeling of wanting to forgive because it will not come Not “It didn’t matter” and “I probably reserved it” “It was wrong, it mattered, and I release you” Masculinity is passed from father to son Adam, Abraham, Jacob, David leaned who they were out of their intimacy with God the Father New heart and put a new spirit in you - Romans 8:1 What God sees when he see you is the real you, the true you, the man he had in mind when he made you You must ask God what he thinks of you, and you must stay with the question until you have an answer Last thing the Evil One wants you to |

2010-01-17 - Kingdom First - Not Kidding His challenge to love our enemies and pray for our persecutors His message totally defies world standards Consider the alternative: responding like the world We become enslaved by how other treat us Regardless how much we love the brotherhood of believers, if we hold any bitterness or resentment - we are simply reduced to the level of the world No matter how unjust or painful the treatment, God's grace is sufficient - 2 Corinthians 12:7-9 He expects us to have Because he call to a life of righteousness which will produce enemies Are we willing to go all the way and suffer for him - Philippians 1:29 He expects us to love and actively pray for the people who oppose us How much do we persevere with people? Trail comes after we determine not to take matters into our own hands By refusing to turn stones into bread, Jesus choose to trust God Satan tries to attack our sense of God's heart toward us If our thoughts are: "Do I really have to wait that long? Do you care me, God?" - Satan will jump all over this Jesus came to answer once and for all our question: "Do you love me?" 2010-08-14 - Waking Dead - Heart is Central The heart is central The heart is addressed in the Bible more than any other topic Love the Lord your God with all your heart - Deuteronomy 6:5 Trust in the Lord with all of your heart - Proverbs 3:5 The heart can be:
The heart can be unpredictable but it is central to our being The heart answers a lot of questions:
|
2010-08-29 - Waking Dead - Listening to His Voice God is still speaking to us today I have much more to say to you. The Spirit will guide you in all truth - John 16:12-13 There is much more than Jesus wants to say to you Since the Spirit resides in you heart - the conversation can continue Many good people never hear God because they have never been told that he does He who belongs to God hears what God says - John 8:47 His sheep follow him because they hear his voice. I am the good shpherd - John 10:4 He wants to speak to you and want to lead you to good pasture When we ask, we need to hear what the true answer is - not what we want to hear |
2010-08-31 - Waking Dead - Our Story (part 1) Our life is a story We need someone to walk with us God has given us the Counselor - the Spirit of truth - John 14:16-17 We need someone that makes thing clear and true Not just an annual checkup but all the time The purpose of the Christian life is that our hearts might be restored and set free That is what Jesus came to do All sorts of damage has been done to your heart
Even our laughter is out of heartache - Proverbs 14:13 We are told to trust in the Lord (Proverb 3:5) - it is second nature to worry We are told to love one another deeply (1 Peter 1:22) - that is very rare The answers lie deeply in our heart The heart of a man is deep waters, but a man of understanding draws him out - Proverbs 20:5 |
2010-09-03 - Waking Dead - Help of Others We are usually too close to our lives to see what is going on Because it is our story , we don't know what is true and false In every great story, the hero or heroine must turn to someone older and wiser to answer a riddle
Sometimes in our discipling we just fix what is wrong (sin) and not work on the glory of God Need to also me focused on moving forward and to go out on faith |
2010-11-04 - Contagious Christian - The Peter Approach Peter was ready-aim-fire kind of guy He was unhesitant and full force When Jesus ask who he way, he gave an an immediate answer - Matthew 16:15-16 And he later even challenged Jesus' stated mission head on - can you imagine try to correct the Son of God? He wanted to be close to Jesus no matter what Tried to walk on water When enemies came Peter was ready to cut off their heads He was direct, bold and right to the point He was a perfect fit for Pentecost in Acts 2 - some one unafraid to take a stand about the crucifixion of Jesus Some people in the world need a Peter in their lives They won't come to Christ otherwise - they need someone who won't beat around the bush and helps them clarify/challenge about the truth of Christ |
2010-11-09 - Contagious Christian - Samaritan Woman Invitational Approach Samaritan woman was living an immoral lifestyle Jesus ignored all conventional wisdom - John 4 It didn't take long to realize she wasn't talking to any ordinary teacher but the Messiah She immediately went to town and brought people back to hear Jesus Now we have seen and heard for ourselves and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world - John 4:42 Many would make great strides if they just make strategic inviting to a church service or event Primary question you will need to answer is which event will be appropriate to bring them to Invitation are great way for all of us but some just have the knack for getting people to go places with them Many of these Christians tend to stay out of the limelight but they make a big impact to their world |

2010-11-23 - Mission - Expectation of Christ Reading Luke 19:11-27 Parable of the 10 minas God has given us a lifetime of opportunities and blessing with the expectation that they would be utilized to the fullest Consider the most important goal of life according to Jesus - salvation for all It is the motivating force behind everything Christ did Even to the point of dying for it - Matthew 20:28 The gospel must first save me, but then through me, save others Capitalism and Communism does not give us the answers No philosophy or religion can meet the needs God wants to the world more than you do When God wants something accomplished, he can move mountains to do it He sacrificed his own Son for saving man Our God is wildly happy when someone is saved - Luke 15 If we claim to know God, then we most certainly will share with in his attitude |
2010-12-09 - Mission - Cannot Fail The harvest is plentiful; ask the Lord of the harvest - Luke 10:2 Those who have taken up the work must devote themselves to prayer What they get from him is something they can not find in themselves Prayer is not the only important thing needed, it is just the most important thing to the harvest Obstacles are many for those working in the harvest There is not one that cannot be overcome with prayer Efforts to bring the harvest often stop because the workers run into problems or frustration Problem begin to look larger than the mission They lose their fire and joy Jesus says there is a problem (workers are few) but there is not despair The problem is an opportunity for perseverance and faith Frustrations and challenges differ but two things remain the same

ObservationsGenesis 4:7 - if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door Personal ApplicationI wonder sometimes if I have my "ringer" loud enough for me to hear when God calls. 2012-01-15 - Ministry - The Generator of Power John 15:1-7; Mt 7:7-12; Luke 18:1-8 Prayer generates the power in a disciple's life. Without prayer, there is no power, no relationship with God, and no expectation of miracles. Prayer connects us to God's heart and reveals to us God's will. We can be afraid to pray because we think God will test us by not answering our prayers. James chapter 1 tells us that trials test our faith not unanswered prayer. We begin to pray with unbelief in our hearts and no expectation of answered prayer in our minds. God does not always answer when WE want Him to but He will answer. It is up to us to persevere and mature long enough to receive the answer. God desires to give us whatever we wish as long as we remain in relationship with Him. God is a merciful and loving God. He wants to bless us and encourage us. Generations of powerful men and women have walked before us in real relationship with God. They witnessed incredible answers to prayer. God has not changed since then. He is willing to answer; are you willing to pray? Pray with Passion Pray with Expectation Pray with Specificity Pray with Boldness Pray with Perseverance What three things will you pray about until they are answered, no matter how long it takes? |
2012-01-19 - Ministry - Remaining In Christ John 15 Remaining in Christ seems like an easy thing to do yet it challenges us as disciples. We have spent years finding our identity in the world, in success, in how others feel about us. We strive for a "good self-esteem." Instead, Jesus calls for us to have a "proper self-esteem" and a proper view of ourselves. This is found by remaining in Christ. We are called to be as intimately connected with Christ as a vine is with a branch. That connection brings fruit, change and answered prayer. We are to find our identity in Christ, not in ourselves. The call of discipleship is to abandon self, not to make ourselves better. Christ is better; we are lost and dead outside of Him. God wants us to get our spiritual identity from his Son. As disciples we are called to a Person, not to a program. To relationship, not to religiosity. We are called to Christ, not to Christianity. An interesting exercise to do would be to count how many times the expressions "In Christ" or "in Him" are used in the book of Ephesians, a great book on being "in Christ." Questions/Followup

2012-01-24 - Ministry -The Miracle of Training Luke 6:39-40 Have you ever felt stuck in the mud in your Christian life? Feeling like you can't change? God's way to help us to change and grow spiritually is through discipleship. In Mark 1:17, Jesus said, "Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men." The beauty of God's plan is that whatever we lack in our character, He makes up the difference as long as we have the heart to imitate Jesus. God blesses us with spiritual people who we can imitate and be trained by. Remember as a child when you wanted to be "grown up" and would copy mom or dad. You tried to talk like them and dress up like them because you wanted to be just like them. What happened to our childlike heart to imitate? You don't have to have all the answers, or be smart or talented to be just like Jesus---all you need is the heart to imitate and want to be trained. Would people say that you remind them of your discipleship partner? Why or why not? Today tell your discipleship partner one characteristic that you admire about them and ask them how you can be more like that. |
2012-02-03 - Ministry - A Righteous Response Mark 11:15-17, John 2:15,16 How does Jesus deal with anger? I know many of us, consider Jesus' response to the temple being used for a marketplace as an example of righteous anger. However, I studied eight different translations and the scriptures never state "Jesus got angry. John records that Jesus "made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area. It is hard to imagine myself doing this without harshness and anger but I did not conclude that Jesus was harsh or mean. In Mark 11:17 it simply says that he next "taught them". In John, the disciples saw his actions as "zeal" and when confronted by the Pharisees he answered their questions with profound teaching. This was not a man out of control while responding to mistreatment of his Father's house. Jesus was very God-focused in the way he dealt with the emotion of anger. In Mark 3:5,6 the scripture points out that Jesus was angry "at their stubborn hearts" because they could not respond to his questions due to evil intentions in their hearts. Jesus was angry. How did he deal with it? Further study indicates Jesus combined anger with being/feeling: "deeply distressed. His next response was to heal a man with a shriveled hand and to teach us all an amazing lesson about how deeply God cares for us. WOW! I'm not like Jesus when I get angry, how about you? Challenge:

2012-02-04 - Ministry - Pick Up Your Sword Matthew 4:1-11 As Christians we constantly live under spiritual warfare. The battle between Satan and God constantly rages. In this passage we see just a glimpse of one skirmish. Satan attacks with his weapon-temptation, and Jesus responds with his skillfully sharpened sword: the Word of God. In this clash Jesus is able to defeat Satan first because he sees the battle, and second because of his passion to fight it with the scriptures. Question: Do you see the battle? Do you know when you are being tempted, or do the devil's enticements escape you and you easily fall into sin? In these scriptures Jesus teaches us how to fight back. (V.4) When daily temptation and sin come we have to have deep convictions that we need the Bible. (Satan's first temptation was doubt. "If you are the Son of God") Are you tempted to ignore your desperation for God? Are you desperate to be right with God? Are you tempted to skip your quiet times? (V.6-7) Are you tempted to test God? Do you think, "If he doesn't answer this prayer, then I won't pray anymore," or "He didn't do that, so I am leaving." Does bitterness or persecution tempt you? Tempted to doubt the kingdom or the scriptures? Tempted to doubt the only church in the Bible, the salvation of family members, or tempted to ignore certain passages Cling to the truths in the scriptures, they are your most powerful weapons. (V. 8-10) Q: Are you tempted by the world? Tempted by their ease? Their power? Their leisure? Tempted to worship what they do-money, attention, praise, desire? (Ps 73) Write down the temptations you are most susceptible to. Find a scripture passage in your QT that will help you fight back. |
2012-02-13 - Ministry - Are You Willing to Keep Praying? Luke 18:1-8 Jesus tells this parable to show us something. The scriptures even go so far as to tell us exactly what that something is that we should always pray and not give up. Have you ever decided to pray about a specific situation and not stopped until it has changed? What if it took a year to change? Five years? Ten years? Twenty years? Jesus says to never give up! Too often we get discouraged and want to quit-even on God-because something doesn't change. Maybe we haven't been fruitful for a while or we don't have a dating relationship yet. Maybe things have not changed in our marriage fast enough or our job situation is still not working out. Maybe we are just not changing our hearts the way we should. The answer is not to give up but to keep on praying. Jesus ends the parable questioning whether there would still be faith on earth when he returns. Our lack of prayer is a sign of a lack of faith! To keep praying and not give up is a sign of great faith. Write down three things you have quit praying about and recommit yourself to be faithful in prayer. Decide to trust. God and be in the kingdom for the long haul-no matter how many decades of prayer it takes!! |
