|
2010-03-21 - To Live is Christ - Joy and Crown Paul: My joy and crown is you standing firm in the Lord - Philippians 4:1 For the Greeks, the crown was a symbol of victory or a token of honor Paul's crown was changed lives The legacy was lasting and the reward was eternal Paul to Corinthians: Result of the ministry not written on tablets but on human hearts - 2 Corinthians 3:2-3 If other people's spiritual growth is not our concern, it will never be our joy If others are not our joy in this life, they will never be our crown after this life What brought Jesus joy, brought Paul joy Where do we get our joy in life? Self-centeredness is the greatest roadblock of joy We can not be concerned about the things of God if our own things get in the way The Philippians were Paul's concern, his focus, his joy and his crown |
2010-05-12 - Desire's Journey - Our Heart's Deepest Secret But I still haven't found what I am looking for - U2 We have a secret desire for life as it was meant to be Again and again the yearning of our heart cries for this life Life comes to all of us as a mystery We long to live a life we are not sure where to find The greatest human tragedy is to give up the search for life. Nothing is of greater importance than the life of our deep heart To lose heart is to lose everything - Proverbs 4:23 Who we really are and why we are here comes to us through our heart's desire Our heart yearns for things to be right is so strong that it overrides the logic and hopes against hope every time The heart has its reasons which reason knows not of - Proverbs 20:5 There are two things that pierce the human heart:
|
2010-05-24 - Desire's Journey - Blessed are the Nice? The enemy wants us to have small passions and desires We are producing a generation whose greatest virtue is to not defend anyone The greatest enemy of holiness is not passion but apathy If deadness is next to godliness, then Jesus had to deadest person ever - it wasn't the case God is a consuming fire - Hebrews 10:31
|
2010-07-04 - Desire's Journey - The Grand Affair (part 1) To know and to be known. It is our deepest ache. Love makes us to crazy things for love. No union on earth like the consummation of love between a man and woman Becoming one - this is what God is seeking with us Bible is the greatest romance ever written |
2010-07-30 - Desire's Journey - Letting Go (part 7) Christ is weeping freely His prayers are marked by loud cries and tears He make it very clear what he desires "Yet not my will, your will be done" He surrenders with desire Making himself poor, he opens up to us the treasures of heaven Buddha abandons his desire Christ surrenders his will It is no small difference True surrender is not an easy way out Surrender comes only after the night of wrestling Only after we open our hearts to care deeply and give over our deepest desires to God Freedom and beauty and rest that follow are among the greatest surprises |
2010-10-07 - Contagious Christian - Attractiveness of Authenticity (part 1) Jesus knew the importance of perceptions Are you either drawing people toward a relationship with God or pushing them further away? - Matthew 5:16 How we conduct our daily lives has implications that reach all the way into eternity As part of the high potency - there are three qualities of being a Christian Authenticity, compassion, and sacrifice Authentic Identity When people are asked what qualities of person brother you the most - dishonesty usually is near the top of the list People are drawn to sincerity Avoid acting like more than you are or pretending you're less that what you are When following Christ - We renounce the sin in our lives but not the authentic identity we have One of the greatest mistakes a believer can make is to renounce or repress his uniqueness in a vain attempt to appear more spiritual Years of identity repression - you can totally lose your understanding of who you really are There are some who will never see Him for who He really is until they watch Him living uniquely in our lives The family of God is kaleidoscope of people with different gifts and temperaments We were fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139:14 There is someone out there one step away from faith, they just need someone like you - your passion, personality, and interests |
2010-11-27 - Mission - All Nations The only event in history where all mankind gathers together is Judgment Day An expert in the law asked "What I do to inherit eternal life?" and "Who is my neighbor?" This expert had given his life to study of the scriptures Jesus illustrates the greatest commandment - one man helping another Does not talk about:
James 2:14-16 - Do you claim to have faith? It is never alone Food, clothing, a blanket shows that you have saving faith Christian who "share their faith" don't always "share their food" Sometimes we resemble the expert in the law who did not love their neighbor By focusing on helping the poor, many people seem to become more evangelistic Physical and spiritual needs are inseparable Jesus said, I was hungry, of need of clothes, sick. Did you help him? - Matthew 25:35-36 He takes it personally - Jesus grew up poor Doves were the sacrifice of the poor - Luke 2:24 |
2010-12-23 - Cross of Christ (part I) Romans 3:22-26, 5:6-8

|
2011-11-21 - Getting Advise (part I) One of the greatest advantages you have as a disciple is the wealth of knowledge, insight and experience available from all the other disciples in the church. These individuals have experienced a lot personally or have helped many people through tough or challenging situations in life and want to be there to offer help (or advise) to you. We came to God by letting Him use others to help us see the truth, and we will grow stronger and closer to God by letting others continue to help us. Getting advise will be of tremendous help to you in your Christian walk. This study will help you see how God uses advise to help you grow and your best for Him. Our feelings and emotions can often mislead us and hurt us

2011-12-03 - Guarding Your Heart (part II) Being open and vulnerable will help keep your heart healthy

2012-01-20 - Ministry - Even Greater Things John 14:12-14 Ordinary men do great things. James 5:17-18 - Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. Heb 11:8-end of the chapter. Great men in the bible are noted for their faith. God recognizes, rewards, and replenishes faith. Life begins at today. Everyday is a new day. New goals, new dreams, new horizons, new victories, new life. Faith in God allows us to do greater things than we have ever done. Questions:

2012-03-15 - Instilling Faith in Children (part I) Not all the answers but I do know where get them along with advice from others Going to share about 2-3 scriptures for use to discuss / feel free to be part of things We need Jesus - Matthew 18:1-6 v1 - Side conversation while Jesus was doing miracles among them v3 - It does not come naturally, we need to change Why is it so important to become childlike?
|
2012-11-14 - Message of the Arrows (part II) Becoming a Christian does not necessarily solve the dilemma of the arrows A continued blindness of the arrows can cause loneliness, emptiness, and longing for something not defined Without God, life becomes a series of happenings and circumstances we are unable to control Instead of a love for God, your life begins to feel like a series of repetitive behaviors - "Believe and Behave Accordingly" Our outer stories become a theater of the should and the inner the story of needs Romance invites trust and the arrows intimidate us into self-reliance The deepest question we ever is related our heart's greatest needs and answers that life us: Who am I? Romance answers someone special and good heart - life will flourish when we give it away Arrows tell us we are a dime a dozen, worthless and dark - arrange for what little we have left Instead of dealing with the Arrows, we silence the longing Which is the truer message? If we hang on to Romance, what do we do with the wounds? If we deny or minimize the wounds, we are deny a part of our heart |
2013-03-22 - Prayer of the Righeous - Intimate Prayer WHo is he who will devote himself to be close to me? - Jeremiah 30:21 God looks for people who will devote themselves to being close to him
Nehemiah had an intimate friendship with God:
|
2013-04-16 - The Strength of Jesus (part I) Four instances of Jesus' first impressions:
Jesus draws men to him because of his power
Only a man of strength draws to him great masses of men
|
2014-01-27 - The Heart of a Child You can be the greatest explainer of truth. But if the very heart of your son or daughter does not believe ‘my daddy loves me,’ they will walk away. Restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers - Malachi 4:6 You can tell when a father doesn’t have his kids’ hearts. You sense the disrespect and anger, the bitterness and emotional distance. Jesus and His Father hearts were always in sync. When Jesus felt separation from the Father, it was the worst pain he could feel. |
2015-02-11 - Lead By Example Everyone must turn from their evil ways and stop all their violence - Jonah 3:7-8 The biggest enemy of godly leaders is not leading by example Leading by example has always been one of a leader's greatest goals
Jonah warned the Ninevites of God's coming judgement and wrath Their king responded by instructing his people to:
...in hopes that God would change his minds and spare the city The king of the Ninevites humility and leading by example saved his city from judgement and wrath When you do as you say in life, you make it far easier for everyone around you to do the same |
2015-05-13 - Wise and Humble Leadership He had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall - 2 Chronicles 26:16 It takes a man of true humility to keep his feet on the ground over the long haul when he is given power and authority over others Uzziah, Judah's tenth king, was not such a man His long and sometimes distinguished reign came to an unfortunate end because of his arrogant thirst for power Uzziah expressed his arrogance by entering the sactuary though this job was reserved for his priest Had Uzziah remained humble, he might have become one of the nation's greatest kings - instead, he spent his later years shut away from people in a leper colony Do you understand your place in the big picture? |
2015-07-02 - Get Up and Go! The time has come for you to lead these people - Joshua 1:2 Throughout the Scripture, God attaches promises to His commands - If you do this, I will do that Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you - Joshua 1:3 Joshua is one of the greatest examples in the Bible of how "showing up" at God's command leads to victory His promises are often contingent upon our taking steps of obedience |
2015-07-15 - Don't Rock the Boat They incited a rebellion against Moses, along with 250 other leaders - Numbers 16:2 Korah was a strong man who organized a corp of leaders with the intention of usurping Moses' authority and installing his own very of the preisthood He forgot what happened to Aaron and Miiam when they challenged Moses' leadership - Numbers 12 Korah was a special leader but he wanted more than what God had given him God removed them from their positions and removed them from the earth altogether Some of God's greatest leaders have been willing to rock the boat but they also have a strong grasp of respecting authority When we submit to those in authority, we demonstrate a key condition for God's blessing: humility! |
2015-08-14 - Right Direction With his wife's consent, he kept the rest - Acts 5:2 Ananias was apparently a strong leader at home, unfortunately, he took his family in horribly wrong direction and paid a heavy price He was among the 1st generation believers who sold their property, pooled their resources, and cared for those in need Ananias sold his property but instead of bring all the money to the apostles, he keep some of it for himself There was nothing wrong with keeping some of the money - Acts 5:4 Where is failed was when he lied about him giving all of it Ananias lead his family in the wrong direction, where are you leading your family? One of the greatest reward of leading your family in a godly direction is to see them grow too |
2015-11-16 - Self-Discipline These are the sins of David... Amnin whose mother was Ahinoam from Jezreel - 1 Chronicles 3:1 Many gifted people fail to achieve all they could because they lack self-discipline like Amnon, King David's first son Amnon sealed his fate when he looked lustfully at his beautiful half-sister Tamar The Law of God specifically forbade such behavior Amnon forced himself on Tamar which led to Amnon's murder by his outraged brother Absalom All this happened within the family of Israel's greatest king His life was cut shore before he could do anything of note for God or his people |
2015-12-11 - Consistent Life Serve the Lord alone - choose today whom you will serve - Joshua 24:14 The greatest character qualities of any leader is the willingness to consistently "walk the walk" Joshua had flaws but he consistently exercised his faith and obeyed the God who called him to lead This is why he could confidently challenge his people to "choose today whom you will serve" He dared the Israelites to rid their loves of any remnants of idol worship and to follow God wholeheartedly Joshua consistant faithfulness helped lead his people into the Promise Land |
2018-04-06 - The Narrowness of Jesus - Focus (part III) We try to give to many causes and the result is we have little joy in our giving Not only was Jesus joyful but he was mighty He stayed in Palestine and kept his heart close to a few chosen hearts - became increasingly influential He made himself mighty by limiting himself The difference between a mighty river and a swap is the river has banks (boundries) What is success? It is to do the thing we were created to do He was only 33 years old - yet he did the greatest piece of work ever accoumplished on the earth The "fine" in fine arts is the because of the limitations which they impose |
2024-01-15 - Intro (part IV) Included in the greatest commandment is: love the Lord with all of your MIND Belief is both a matter of faith but also of will Sometimes we just want things to be true - this could be said for both Christian (something to rely on) and non-believer (changes in life required) There is a difference between proving and accepting Christianity The point of open mindedness is to find the truth when it comes along; God has given us enough evidence to see him without comprising our faith or our free will |
