2010-08-26 - Waking Dead - Glory (part 3) You are going to the need your whole heart - so you will need every ounce of courage and faith as well James and John, sons of Zebedee did hide what they thought
He can see clearly who they really are We many times spend our time hiding through false selfs Like Adam and Eve did with fig leaves We make up a glory because we are convinced we have none of our own Must ask: God, who am I? What do you think of me? What is my real name? The deeper reason we fear our own glory is that once we let others see the truest us - aka nakedness It is awkward when everyone else is veiled Living from your glory is the only way to live You cannot love another person from a false self You can not help others if you are in captivity yourself Our deepest fear of all - we will have to live from our hearts Means we do not know the next thing God will ask of us |
2010-10-08 - Contagious Christian - Attractiveness of Authenticity (part 2) Authentic Emotional life Expressing sadness or hurt or grief are not signs of low faith or shallow character There are two negative consequences when a person outlaws certain feelings
Remember what Jesus did when His friend Lazarus died? He wept Authentic Confession How Christian deal with their foul-ups and failures The thinking here is that our moral missteps will drive people away But actually, It is a powerful witness to the transforming power of Christ Zacchaeus' household was converted because he was very open with what he did wrong Today authentic confession cause a seeker in today's non-fault society to realize that only the living God would prompt a person to say "it is my fault and I am sorry" |

2010-11-17 - Contagious Christian - Making the Message Clear (part II) Christ - Common questions Why couldn't God just forgive and forget, as we can? Like in car accident, God is willing to forgive but someone still has to pay for the damage What kind of justice is there in having Jesus suffer instead of me? God was not a reluctant bystander The difference is that God is will and he is taking his own punishment for you You Many people are left with the impression that if they go to church or they born into a church they are saved Not everyone that calls Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom - Matthew 7:21-23 We have got to be crystal clear that a personal response is essential Do vs Done The difference between religion and Christianity is Do vs Done Religion spells DO - as in we try to do something for God's salvation It is like a salesman that needs to meet a quota but does not know what it is But we can never do enough and will always fall short - Romans 3:23 Christianity spells DONE Means that what we could never do for ourselves, Christ has already done He lived a perfect life we could never live He willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty we owed |

2011-10-03 - Genesis 3 - The Fall of Man SummaryThe serpent deceived the woman; she and Adam ate from the tree. Man blamed woman, woman blamed the serpent. The earth became cursed, and God sent Adam and Eve out of the garden. ObservationsGenesis 3:1 - Did God really say Personal ApplicationI need to be aware of Satan's tricks continuously. He does not want to be noticed. I need to pray and reflect on how I am living my life and find where Satan is getting me to deviate even a fraction of a degree. I need also examine my thought and find out they are out of line with God's Word. I will ask others what they see where I have taken a devour on God's narrow road. |
2012-01-16 - Ministry - Faith: The Generator of Miracles Mark 6:1-6; Mark 9:14-25; II Kings 20:1-11 Sometimes we think that miracles ended when the Bible was finished. Or if they do occur today, they happen to other people. Our faith becomes limited to what we can accomplish instead of what God can do through us. The call of the disciple is to believe the unbelievable. To live on the edge. To dream where there are no dreamers left. God is unlimited in what he can do. Often times he does do miracles but because we are not looking through the eyes of faith, we cannot see them occur. We learn from the Scriptures above that miracles will only occur where faith is present. We have to confront the unbelief in our lives and battle against past faithlessness. We cannot let past sin or discouragement set low expectations or low beliefs in our lives. God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. Questions:
What miracles do you choose to believe God will do in your life or others lives? Dream big! Write down something you will pray to see God do this year. |
2012-03-04 - Fear of Failure - God Sticks By Us When We Fail by Rhys Kiaaina - Region Leader: San Francisco Church of Christ Isaiah 49:15 Whenever I fail, I feel like I am being left behind. That somehow God has left me. But Scripture says God remembers. He will not forget me. If we are separated, the reality is that I have left Him. Whenever I fail, I doubt God's motives. I think He is angry with me and disappointed in me. But God has you and I engraved on the palm of His hand. Isn't that incredible? He's got a tattoo of you and me on the palm of His hand! God made a decision a long time ago that He would stick by us for life! Whenever I experience failure, I get the 3-D's: Depressed, Distracted, and Discouraged. I focus on what I have failed to do, rather than what God is able to accomplish. God's love is deeper than a mother's for a child. There is no reason for me to get discouraged because God has always "got my back". Decisions:

2012-10-15 - Prayer of the Righeous - Wiping Away Tears When suffering hits us we can either drop to our knees in prayer or run from God Paul chose to run toward God and saw suffering as an opportunity to rely on God - 1 Corinthians 1:8-9 Suffering is a language God understands Jesus was a man of sorrows and familiar with suffering - Isaiah 53:3 Because of this, he is able to help those who are being tempted - Hebrews 2:18 The gospel is the story of God's suffering He made the world, the world reject him Parable of the Talents tells the story of God's rejection - Matthew 21 When God was only left with the option of sending his Son, he did - Matthew 21:35-37 We murdered him and understood what it meant to not be whole Because God has given men freedom to choose, there is suffering on earth When we suffer, we have a chance to draw closer to God There is unique bond between those who are suffering and comforter - Matthew 5:4 |
2012-11-05 - Unknown Romance Other than the official channels, he also speak to us through what happens to us Our inner story is audible early in the morning and the middle of the night - when the inner editor is off duty Our heart is captured by mystery - it was one of the great things about being a child As adults, we have learned to tell ourselves that it is naive, we need to move to more reasonable things He think we have outgrown it and it was just foolishness of a child Contemporary Christianity teaches us to mistrust this New Age heresy In all of our hearts there lies a longing for a Sacred Romance It will not away in spite of our years of ignoring it Romance couched in mystery is set deep within us We desire to be part of something larger than ourselves We have two deep desires:
It is the core of our spiritual journey Any religion that ignores it survives only as guilt-induced legalism, a set of propositions to be memorized and rules to be obeyed What does these desires have to do with God? Hasn't God left us with them to draw us closer to him? |
2012-11-14 - Message of the Arrows (part II) Becoming a Christian does not necessarily solve the dilemma of the arrows A continued blindness of the arrows can cause loneliness, emptiness, and longing for something not defined Without God, life becomes a series of happenings and circumstances we are unable to control Instead of a love for God, your life begins to feel like a series of repetitive behaviors - "Believe and Behave Accordingly" Our outer stories become a theater of the should and the inner the story of needs Romance invites trust and the arrows intimidate us into self-reliance The deepest question we ever is related our heart's greatest needs and answers that life us: Who am I? Romance answers someone special and good heart - life will flourish when we give it away Arrows tell us we are a dime a dozen, worthless and dark - arrange for what little we have left Instead of dealing with the Arrows, we silence the longing Which is the truer message? If we hang on to Romance, what do we do with the wounds? If we deny or minimize the wounds, we are deny a part of our heart |
2013-04-16 - The Strength of Jesus (part I) Four instances of Jesus' first impressions:
Jesus draws men to him because of his power
Only a man of strength draws to him great masses of men
|
2013-06-25 - Why we need men of resolution (part II) Our relationship with our father is very telling as to why we are and who we are. “What does my dad really think about me?” Lots of fathers don’t realize their vital role. Many issues come from fathers having lost their sense of purpose. Society is guiding boys to remain boys as long as possible— extending childhood into their thirties—while forcing girls to become women long before they are ready. Millions of young men are staying single. They want the privileges and rewards of manhood but only the responsibilities and moral requirements of boys. God has a special place in His heart for two specific groups of people: fatherless children and widows. Dad have good intention but there many things working against them:
Devil will never stop attacking what God prioritizes. |

2013-09-07 - Man of Resposibility When did you become a man? Men are often unsure. Learning this can not only help us understand ourselves better but also help our sons become secure men as well. When Jesus was twelve years old and His parents accidentally left Him After this event, the Scriptures say that He “kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men” - Luke 2:52 In the Jewish community today, when a boy reaches puberty (around the age of thirteen)
He may have become a responsible adult earlier than twenty, but by then he had no excuse. God calls us to an appropriate and excellent standard: His. To be a man is to fully own your roles as an adult, husband, father, employee, neighbor, and any other role you choose to undertake. |
2013-10-22 - Leadership Founded in Love Jesus Christ founded his empire on love God not only wants you to lead your family but deeply love them Children feel much more secure if they know their parents love each other. 2015-07-01 - Passionate Intercession Surely you wouldn't do such a thing, destroying the righteous along with the wicked - Genesis 18:25 Abraham's heart sank when God announced he would destroy Sodom:
