2009-08-28 - Wild at Heart - Question that haunts every man (part 2) Every man knows there is something wrong, but can not figure out what it is Man’s deepest fear is being found out – discovered as a impostor and not really a man Every man feels that the world is asking him to be something he doubts very much he has it in him to be How do you see yourself as a man? Are words like: strong, passionate and dangerous word you would choose? Do you have the courage to ask those in your life what they think of you as a man? Manly to – hunt, fix cars, survive in the wild Why don’t men play the man? Why don’t they offer their strength to a world that needs it?
|
2009-09-05 - Wild at Heart - Battle for a mans heart (part 1) Jesus told us to turn the other cheek. We can not turn a cheek we do not have. Church full of such men Many have their soul hanging in the balance because no one invited them to be dangerous and to know their own strength or to discover they have what it takes I feel like I have to ask for permission Nearly every blow ends up falling in the same place - against our strength Life takes one vertebra at a time until he has no spine at all Boy are 3-4 times more likely to be diagnosed as suffering from ADD Society teaches to be a nice guy -– to be soft Women are often attracted to wilder men, but once have caught him they settle down to task of domesticating him How do I get my husband to come alive? Invite him to be dangerous Women don’t start wars Violent crimes aren’t really committed by women. Our prisons aren’t filled with women |
2009-09-06 - Wild at Heart - Battle for a mans heart (part 2) Boys are in plentiful supply, but it seems fewer and fewer men Two reasons
They have lost heart Becoming a Christian is like being called to the front lines Wounds are far too consistent to be accidental Do you know why there’s been such an assault? |
2009-09-07 - Wild at Heart - The enemy fears you If you ever really got your heart back, lived from it with courage, you would be a huge problem to him Many men have not been shown how to fight from the heart. Failure of fathers and left men without direction If you want the wound healed and your strength restored and to find your true name, you re going to have to fight for it. Notice your reaction at these words. Does another come in and caution you to stop We need to know who we are and if we have what it takes A man’s core question does not go away We search for the answer of validation
|
2009-09-09 - Wild at Heart - The fathers voice (part 2) When we see Jesus, Joseph is out of the picture – true father God – he had to learn who he really was and made of. Initiation involves a journey and a series of tests. We try to make our lives easier. What are you trying to teach me here? What issues in my heart are you trying to rise through this? What is it you want me to see? What are you asking me to let go of? Men are taught that a wound that stops you from playing is a girlish wound. No wonder we walk with our guts hanging out Most men minimize their wound David did not act like this at all - openly - “my heart is wounded within me” - Psalms 109:22 Suck it up, as the saying goes God is fiercely committed to you Wound that goes unacknowledged and unwept is a wound that cannot heal You’ve embraced and deserve is a would that cannot heal Whatever is denied cannot heal Certainly denial that it’s shaping the way they live today. |
2009-09-19 - Wild at Heart - Healing the wound (part 5) Until we are broken, our life will be self-centered, self-reliant, our strength will be our own. So long as you think you are really something in and of yourself, what will you need God for? Think of the poser you know – are they the kind of man you would call 2am, when life is collapsing around you? Where a man’s wound is, that is where his genius will be. Because the wound was given in the place of your true strength Out of your brokenness that you discover what you have to offer the community When we begin to offer not merely our gifts but our true selves, that is when we become powerful That is when we are ready for battle |
2009-09-23 - Wild at Heart - The Enemy (part 4) The world is a carnival of counterfeits, counterfeit battles. Counterfeit adventures, counterfeit beauties Men should think of it as a corruption of their strength Battle your way to the top says the world and you will be a man World give a false sense of security
Want to know how the world really feels about you – start living out your true strength Say what you think, stand for the underdog, challenge foolish polices Many of us have actually been afraid to let our strength show up because the world doesn’t have a place for it |
2009-09-30 - One Another - Greet One Another Greeting seems to be pretty important aspect of relationships in the NT:
Need to show each other they are welcomed, loved and accepted - not just saying "I accept you" roboticly Challenge for all of us is to really communicate the heart of love and acceptance Identify 2 or 3 people that you have a hard time "accepting" Will you be comfortable saying "God judge me just as I judge them"? |
2009-10-06 - One Another - Speaking the Truth in Love Speaking the truth in love - Ephesians 4:15 Really what admonishing and good couching is Not speaking harshly or with anything other than their good in mind Example of any area of life to talk about:
Input not to stand in judgment but help one another to be transformed |
2009-10-10 - Wild at Heart - The Strategy (part 3) 2. Intimidation Our condition may become normal to use after a while - depression If you pray and fight against – It will get worse. Once the Enemy is discovered, he usually does not just roll over and die. Jesus says get tough and resist the onslaught Next level Satan tries intimidation and fear He wants you to agree with intimidation because he fears you Fighting back, he will lose – Resist the devil and he will flee – James 4:7 Why do so many pastor’s kids go off the deep end? Evil One is trying to an old tactic – strike first and maybe the opposition will run He can’t win, you know God is with us “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you” – Joshua 1:5 The Lord is a warrior, the Lord is his name – Exodus 15:3 How did Jesus win the battle against Satan? God was with him Doesn’t simply mean that he’ll be around - he will fight for us Satan is trying to appeal to the traitor’s commitment to self-preservation when he uses fear and intimidation. So as long as we are back in the old story of saving our skin, looking out for Number One, those tactics will work. Become a warrior The most dangerous man on earth is the man who has reckoned with his own death. All men die, few men ever really live. |
2009-10-12 - Wild at Heart - The Strategy (part 5) We don’t need accountability groups we need fellow warriors, someone to fight alone side, someone to watch our back We don’t need a meeting of the Really Nice Guys Never a more devoted group of men than those who have fought alongside one another You will be wounded To lose a leg is nothing compared to losing heart Enemy knows the wounds of your past and he will try to wound you again in the same place It is an honor to be wounded in the service of the Lord Boys are proud of their scars, they are badges of honor Kingdom forcefully advances and forceful men take hold of it - Matthew 11:12 Jesus says it is going to take every ounce of passion and forcefulness you’ve got |
2009-10-14 - Wild at Heart - Eve's Wound Question for her is: Am I lovely? She needs to know that she is exquisite and exotic and chosen. This is core to her identity, the way she bears the image of God Will you purse me? Do you delight in me? Will you fight for me? Wound says - No, you are not beautiful and no one will really fight for you Wound usually always comes from the hand of her father He has the power to cripple or to bless is just as powerful to her as to the son Her heart is violated and the message is driven father in – you are not desired, you will not be protected, no one will fight for you. If the father is passive, a little girl will suffer a silent abandonment – not noticed or pursued Like so many unloved young women, they will to turn to boys to hear what she never heard from her father When a woman never hears she’s worth fighting for, she comes to believe that is the sort of treatment she deserves A hesitant man is the last thing in the world a woman needs. She needs a lover and a warrior, not a nice guy Number one problem between men and women is that we men, when asked to truly fight for her, hesitate We are still seeking to save ourselves, we have forgotten the deep pleasure of spilling our life for another |
2009-10-17 - Wild at Heart - Offering our Strength (part 3) She needs God more than she needs you You need him more than you need her You do not love her to get a good grade, you love her because that is what you are made to do Ruth: How does a good woman help her man to play the man? Arouse him to be a man Boaz offers her some protection and some food, but what Ruth really want was a ring Four options:
Will you fight for her? Stop being a nice guy and act like a warrior Pray for her like you never prayer for her before, OUT LOUD Step between her and the forces of darkness Not just once (some will do it 1,2, or 3 times) Man can only be justified by the measure of his sacrifice |
2009-10-19 - Wild at Heart - An adventure to live (part 2) Most spend the energy of their lives trying to eliminate risk Their children hear “no” far more than they hear “yes” If a man succeeds in securing his life against all risk, he will wind up in a cocoon of self-protection and wonder why he is suffocating Seizing upon some sort of competence and rejecting anything that cannot be controlled This a refusal to trust God and reach out for control – runs deep in every man False self’s desire is to have power over experience – to control events and consequences - Mark 8:36 Too may men forsake their dreams because they aren’t willing to risk or fear they aren’t up to the challenge or are never told that those desire of the heart are good Soul of a man isn’t made for controlling things His job is charter to explore, build, conquer, and care for all creation If you had permission to do what you really wanted to do, what would you do? "How" is a faithless question – How is God’s department… Ask "what" What is written on your heart? What make you come alive? Don’t ask yourself what does the world need. Ask yourself what make you come alive and go do that because what the world needs is people who have come alive I’ve met men who’ve used advice like it was permission They are deceived about what they really want Goal of Christian discipleship is the transformed heart We move from boy who needs the Law to the man who is able to live by the Spirit of the Law Live freely, animated and motivated by God’s Spirit then you won’t feed on compulsion or selfishness |
2009-10-20 - Wild at Heart - An adventure to live (part 3) We pay attention to our desire. Often the clues are in our past, in the moments when we found ourselves loving what we were doing To recover his heart’s desire a man needs to get away When a man thinks that what will really make him come alive is something unholy – ask what is the desire beneath this desire? The greatest obstacle to realizing our dreams is the false self’s hatred of mystery Most important aspects of any man’s world – his relationship with his God and with the people in his life, his calling, the spiritual battles he’ll face To be certain of God means that we are uncertain in all our ways There are no formulas with God God is a person and not a doctrine Joshua blowing trumpets for a week – only did it once Gideon’s plan of attack 32000 to 300 and torches and water pots Jesus healing not the same way twice |
2009-10-21 - Wild at Heart - An adventure to live (part 4) The problem with modern Christianity is it’s obsession with principles Real test of a man comes when all his resources fail Living and loving – jump in with both feet Ask your wife what is wrong? Dangerous – very much a mystery She does not want to be solved; she wants to be known We know how to be nice but we really do not know how to fight Christian life should not be chaotic or be flagrantly irresponsible. Break away from it all and head off into the unknown God Adam - No formula for how he was to handle mess God honored and did not hold his hand Was not left alone to face life The only way to live in this adventure – is in an ongoing relationship with God Control we crave is an illusion – it in exchange for God’s relationship Moses and God knew each other David was after God’s own heart Jesus made God known – John 15:15 What are you teaching me here, God? What are you asking me to do or let of? What in my heart are you speaking to? |
2009-11-04 - Repentance - Jesus Opens Our Eyes (part 2) The Red Pill and the Blue Pill
|
2009-12-31 - First the Kingdom - Mercy Mercy is treating others as God has treated us As Christians, we can become numb to the cries of others Because of increased wickedness the love of most will grow cold but he stands firm to the end will be saved - Matthew 24:12-13 Has our love grown cold? Why do we feel so little mercy? Why don't we feel for others? Feeling what they feel - that is really what mercy is all about Not merciful or forgiving because we get focused on ourselves and how we feel We need to forgive so our sins can be forgiven and we can be healed - Luke 6:37 Mercy also comes in the form of understanding and compassion Jesus had mercy for the blind beggar - "Jesus, have mercy on me" = Luke 18:35-43 |
2010-01-01 - First the Kingdom - Guarding Against Heart Disease Blessed are the pure in hear, for they will see God - Matthew 5:8 What does it mean to keep our hearts pure? To have undivided devotion? Set our hearts are things above - Colossians 3:1 Must learn to battle Satan's attacks on our heart Recent years - we have aware about physical heart conditions We should lower our bad cholesterol and exercise more Since we desire a healthy heart for a longer life we: diet and exercise The heart is the "want to" muscle When we really want something, we go after it with all of our heart |
2010-01-22 - Kingdom First - Hungry and Humility (part 1) Not "If you fast" but "When you fast" - Matthew 6:16-18 Quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach Greek word for fasting is nesteno ne = a negative prefix esthio = to eat When was the last time you fasted? Why don't we fast more? 1. Fasting humbles us because it reminds us how frail we are I have humbled myself with fasting - Psalms 35:15 It is associated with confession and repentance of sin 2. Fasting tests our earnestness to move God to action Forcing us to admit that sometimes prayer alone may not suffice - Mark 9:29 Jesus talks about motivation for fasting We must surpass the righteous of the Pharisees and fast for God and not men - Matthew 5:20 God asks the people "was it really for me that you fasted?" - Zechariah 7:5 |
2010-03-04 - To Live is Christ - To Love is to Live There is nothing greater than love - 1 Corinthians 13:13 If we don't know how to love, we don't know how to live Those who are satisfied with the love they attained have really ceased to love God is love - 1 John 4:8
|
2010-03-18 - To Live is Christ - Know Christ Paul wanted to know Christ - Philippians 3:10-11 Did he not know him yet?
Paul knew about Jesus He was will aware that simply doing the right thing did not give him intimacy Do we really know Christ? To become like him in his death is become like him in life:
The spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you - Romans 8:11 |
2010-03-30 - Life to the Full - Crown not Frown (part 4) True freedom is not political freedom but spiritual freedom - James 1:25 Remember how the Jew sought political freedom? Religion without self-control is useless - James 1:26 Worldly speech includes gossip, slander, cursing, swearing, deceit, etc Lack of social concern is a sure sign that a person is a false Christian Worldly values and social apathy go hand in hand Do we really care about the widows and orphans and widows - James 1:27 |
2010-04-10 - Life to the Full - Two Wisdoms (part 4) There are two sorts of wisdom: earthly and heavenly Do you have God's wisdom? - James 3:17-18
Is why the wise may turn out to be fools and the "foolish" may the wisest of all |
2010-05-12 - Desire's Journey - Our Heart's Deepest Secret But I still haven't found what I am looking for - U2 We have a secret desire for life as it was meant to be Again and again the yearning of our heart cries for this life Life comes to all of us as a mystery We long to live a life we are not sure where to find The greatest human tragedy is to give up the search for life. Nothing is of greater importance than the life of our deep heart To lose heart is to lose everything - Proverbs 4:23 Who we really are and why we are here comes to us through our heart's desire Our heart yearns for things to be right is so strong that it overrides the logic and hopes against hope every time The heart has its reasons which reason knows not of - Proverbs 20:5 There are two things that pierce the human heart:
|
2010-05-17 - Desire's Journey - The Beast Within Years of living in an indifferent hostile world creates a deep sense of unsettledness with in us Battle of good and evil within us - Romans 7:20-23 Sinful desires are contrary to the Spirit They conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want - Galatians 5:17 There is a nagging awareness warning us not to feel our hunger too deeply or it will undo us We wouldn't want to do anything crazy or desperate We want what our unmet desire wants but our sinful nature wants what is contrary We try everything - TV, sex, relationships, drugs, etc - going one to another We don't know what we want because we're so unacquaninted with our desire We try to keep a safe distance between our daily lives and our heart's desire - because it causes us too much trouble Do we really want to open Pandora's box? Dare we awaken our hears to their true desires? Is it better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all? Our dilemma is this: we can't seem to live with desire, and we can't live without it |
2010-05-25 - Desire's Journey - Man who Wanted Nothing A faithful church attender, never missing a Sunday, serving on a committee and offered help to those in need - but why is there something missing? Why are we a Christian? What is that we want? To abandon desire is to say, "I don't really need you or want you. I will live with you because I am suppose to" Your heart desires, duty reduces the dance to a drill The real dilemma of desire is that it humbles us |
2010-05-26 - Desire's Journey - Faith as Desire First two servant doubled their investment and were rewarded When we bury our desires, we saying to God = 'I don't dare desire because I fear you; I think you are hard-hearted" Is our obedience more out of love or out of carefulness? Persistent widow - won he case because she refused to let up When Jesus returns, will he find faith? - Luke 18 To live with desire means:
|
2010-05-29 - Desire's Journey - Mocking Desire We want the adventure without the risk - ex. Only 5% of SUV ever go off-road Idols usually come in pairs: Nearby idol - gives a since of control Faraway idols - provides the taste of transcendence But the idols are impostors - we are taken by the array of choices we have but never have to stop and look at what we are doing Is your desire truly and deeply satisfied with these idols? Does the relief come more through the temporary absence of desire? We have found a powerful drug - distraction Sometimes we don't want to take a good, hard look at what we are really doing Used wood to make fire and cook with - then made an idol??? - Isaiah 44:16-17, 19-20 |
2010-06-04 - Desire's Journey - Misplaced Hope In this world, you will have trouble Why aren't we encouraged by this? Desire can not live without hope. Hope in what? We try to create heaven here |
2010-06-06 - Take the test (part 1) By Curt Simmons in 2002 Test TimeTests are given in many of life's situations:
Deuteronomy 8:1-2 - what is really in your heart? Judges 2:20-FF
1 Peter 1:3-6
|
2010-06-12 - Why Jesus Came (part 1) Preached 1998-07-05
Jesus came to...Save the lost Luke 19:10 Acknowledge the Father John 14:9 |
2010-07-12 - Desire's Journey - The Adventure Begins (part 4) Some love what they do They have found a way to link what they are truly gifted at with the means of paying the bills We've come to think of work as a result of the Fall Dilbert is a icon our working days
Work is not a thing ones does to live, but the thing one lives to do What if you even the freedom and power to do exactly what you were always meant to do? |
2010-07-14 - Desire's Journey - Deeper Desire (part 1) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst The dilemma of desire is the deepest dilemma we will ever face The dangers are deep and potentially fatal How do we not lose heart? No one wants to:
Three things we must come to terms with in our heart:
|
2010-07-17 - Desire's Journey - Deeper Desire (part 4) What is it that we truly desire? The problems is we do not know Our unexamined desire rules you Most of our live far from from our hearts Those living in duty and obligation may need to give all that a rest - so their hearts can come to the surface Pharisees - their religious activities deadened them to the point that they could not recognize God when he stood before them Our deepest treasure becomes our most dutiful burden, it really kills our hearts Those living in indulging desire will need to give it a rest too Going cold turkey - just stay in your desire 15 minutes longer than you usually do When you feel the desire - let the desire just be; let your heart put some honest words to what you are feeling We must learn what is actually being roused The attuned we are to our desire, the less prone we'll be to imposters |
2010-07-18 - Desire's Journey - Deeper Desire (part 5) We can learn many things about the journey of desire in the story of Jesus' wilderness trial 1. He was hungry - Matthew 4:1-4
Satan: You don't have to stay hungry, you have options The lie is that the options will bring us what we most deeply want and need Evey idol is an impostor - not true life When on a marathon - and are given a beer It is cold (we desire cold) but we know we really need cold water for our thirst Junk food does not have the nutrition we need When we have been working out, working hard in the field, we know what we want Knowing full well what our heart's real thirst is, we will have looked the imposer in the face and laughed as Jesus did |
2010-07-19 - Desire's Journey - Deeper Desire (part 6) From the section about Jesus' trial in the dessert 2. Trail comes after we determine not to take matters into our own hands By refusing to turn stones into bread, Jesus choose to trust God Satan tries to attack our sense of God's heart toward us If our thoughts are: "Do I really have to wait that long? Do you care me, God?" - Satan will jump all over this Jesus came to answer once and for all our question: "Do you love me?" We can stand firm on the ground of the cross against the doubt We don't need for God to prove his love for us - he has at the cross |
2010-07-21 - Desire's Journey - Deeper Desire (part 8) Losing all sensitivity - the dullness that most people accept as normal - Ephesians 4:17-19 A deadened soul requires a greater and greater level of stimulation to arouse it This is known as the downward spiral of any addiction TV today would be consider shocking thirty years ago This is why holiness is not numbness - it is sensitivity God wants to be our perfect lover but instead we seek perfection in human relationships and are disappointed when our lovers cannot love us perfectly The Law (Music sheet, if you will) is our help for guiding us Our instrument is out of tune from years of misuse We're not clear all the time on what it is we really want |
2010-08-05 - Waking Dead - Arm Yourselves (part 2) God intends for you to have eternal life When someone gets married, it isn't just a marriage to help them in retirement but their whole lives I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living - Psalms 27:13 No one who has left everything will fail to receive many times as much in this age, in the age to come, eternal life - Luke 18:29-30 Jesus talks about a life available to us in this age Godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come - 1 Timothy 4:8 When we hear eternal life, most think a life that waits for in eternity But eternal means "unending" not "later" Eternal life can start now Jesus was raised from the dead, now we also may live new lives - Romans 6:4 Coming fully alive is what he was committed to What a different it would make if we really knew that our lives and God's glory were bound together Things would start looking up |
2010-08-10 - Waking Dead - Myths (part 1) Myth - sometimes thought of as not factual true Jacob saw earth in a whole new way in his dream - Genesis 28:12 |
2010-08-19 - Waking Dead - Restored The deepest and most wonderful of all mythic truths reveiled in the Beauty and the Beast The transformation: a creature that no one could bear the sight of is transformed into a handsome prince
It is the secret of Christianity You must be born again - John 3:7 Not about keeping laws or rules Counts whether we have really have been changed into new and different people - Galatians 6:15 Is this not the message of the gospel?
|
2010-08-26 - Waking Dead - Glory (part 3) You are going to the need your whole heart - so you will need every ounce of courage and faith as well James and John, sons of Zebedee did hide what they thought
He can see clearly who they really are We many times spend our time hiding through false selfs Like Adam and Eve did with fig leaves We make up a glory because we are convinced we have none of our own Must ask: God, who am I? What do you think of me? What is my real name? The deeper reason we fear our own glory is that once we let others see the truest us - aka nakedness It is awkward when everyone else is veiled Living from your glory is the only way to live You cannot love another person from a false self You can not help others if you are in captivity yourself Our deepest fear of all - we will have to live from our hearts Means we do not know the next thing God will ask of us |
2010-09-12 - Waking Dead - Spiritual Warfare (part 4) Heads up. Satan can give us actions and words to say:
Some trying to "work through" things are simply have agreements with the Enemy Satan uses your wounds and unresolved emotional issues to pin your heart down under a spiritual stronghold We must be careful not to make agreements with Satan to increase his dominion |
2010-09-17 - Waking Dead - Spiritual Warfare (part 5) The worldview has simply removed warfare as a practical category We shouldn't be surprised - we can not see spiritual strongholds after we say they really don't exist If you deny the battle raging against your heart, then the theif can just come and go as he pleases Satan says there is not war Lord Almighty = he who is sovereign over all the powers in heaven and on earth, especially over the armies of Israel The God of angel armies God is powerful and and in control but don't always think of of him taking up a sword and shield, breaking down gates to rescue us Big difference: Joe the good man who is in control vs Joe the Naval Seal |
2010-09-28 - Waking Dead - Devotion and War Caring for your heart is also how you protect your relationship with God Your heart is where life flows Whoever believes in me - streams of living water will flow from within him - John 7:27-38 God's friends care for their heart because they matter to Him What does your heart need? Some needs are common to all hearts like silence and solitude Very early Jesus went away to a solitary place - Mark 1:35 We need to make time to get away - our entire lives are ruled by the expectation of others and the heart is the first to go The enemy will tell you this is foolish "You have many more important things to do with your time" Caring for your heart is an act of obedience, faith and an act of war The first wave of any strike against us is to rob us of the heart to fight it Hyenas cannot bring down a lion in its prime - they run it, taunt it, and wear it down to the point of exhaustion The strategy of our Enemy in the age we live is busyness and drivenness Most will say when asked how they are doing is "really busy" That we way we are going to get burned out and lose touch with our hearts The empty heart is more vulnerable to temptation |
2010-09-30 - Contagious Christian - People Matter (part 2) Jesus focused on a search for the Lost and so they could be Found The Lost Coin - vital to the woman's survival Each one - Something of great value was missing, something that really mattered It also make Jesus so upset the religious leaders were discussing who matters to God who does not When we realize how much God cares about people, we helps us to care for them too It is worth the effort - what is missing was important enough to warrant an all-out search Retrievals results in rejoicing The woman found the coin and threw a party In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents - Luke 15:10
|
2010-10-06 - Contagious Christian - Impacting Your World (part 2) You are the light of the world - Matthew 5:14 What does the light do? Makes things visible and helps us see them for what they really are God made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of knowledge of the glory of God We must not cover or obscure the light in any way - Matthew 5:15-16 The Clear Communication (CC - in the formula) must consist of and understanding of:
Make an honest assessment about your evangelism Which are you?
|
2010-10-07 - Contagious Christian - Attractiveness of Authenticity (part 1) Jesus knew the importance of perceptions Are you either drawing people toward a relationship with God or pushing them further away? - Matthew 5:16 How we conduct our daily lives has implications that reach all the way into eternity As part of the high potency - there are three qualities of being a Christian Authenticity, compassion, and sacrifice Authentic Identity When people are asked what qualities of person brother you the most - dishonesty usually is near the top of the list People are drawn to sincerity Avoid acting like more than you are or pretending you're less that what you are When following Christ - We renounce the sin in our lives but not the authentic identity we have One of the greatest mistakes a believer can make is to renounce or repress his uniqueness in a vain attempt to appear more spiritual Years of identity repression - you can totally lose your understanding of who you really are There are some who will never see Him for who He really is until they watch Him living uniquely in our lives The family of God is kaleidoscope of people with different gifts and temperaments We were fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139:14 There is someone out there one step away from faith, they just need someone like you - your passion, personality, and interests |
2010-11-09 - Contagious Christian - Samaritan Woman Invitational Approach Samaritan woman was living an immoral lifestyle Jesus ignored all conventional wisdom - John 4 It didn't take long to realize she wasn't talking to any ordinary teacher but the Messiah She immediately went to town and brought people back to hear Jesus Now we have seen and heard for ourselves and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world - John 4:42 Many would make great strides if they just make strategic inviting to a church service or event Primary question you will need to answer is which event will be appropriate to bring them to Invitation are great way for all of us but some just have the knack for getting people to go places with them Many of these Christians tend to stay out of the limelight but they make a big impact to their world |
2010-11-30 - Mission - Repentance Both Luke 24 and 2 - message of repentance and forgiveness is mentioned in the light of the death and resurrection of Jesus The message to Preach 1. Repentance God wants the cross to reveal how disgraceful and disgusting sin is To motivate us to radical and rapid change Is there an example of repentance in the Bible that is not radical and rapid? Repentance is the first and foremost call to change to change our mind (metanoia) Paul preached they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance with their deeds - Acts 26:20 You can only change your action for a period of time without ever really changing your mind Change your mind, you will change your action rapidly and radically Baptism happened rapidly and radically because his heart was ready to change - Acts 8 Would we have have baptized the Ethiopian the same day? What did Philip see? Unmistakable signs of godly sorrow As soon as someone has repented, he is ready for baptism |
