2010-02-03 - One Another - Confession Questions (part 4) How do we grow in our confession? a. Be open even at the temptation level We will get used to talking what we are thinking and going through We will nip many things in the bud before they progress to sin b. Start over-correcting Start confessing everything You can always tone it down so it does not become annoying :) c. Ask some else what they think of your confession: Do you find me to be a confessing person? What is my confession level?

2010-03-14 - To Live is Christ - Fellow Worker and Soldier Epaphroditus was committed to Paul in the most difficult of circumstances - Philippians 2:25-30 Having a brother to encourage you and not be ashamed of you while in prision meant the world to Paul Great friends are fellow worker - To accomplish a common goal Great friends are fellow soldiers - a common enemy and a common plan to go make disciples Easy to get wrapped up in our own needs If we are selfless in our thinking and actions - do we think we will lose out in some way? Paul was eager to send Epaphroditus - not reluctantly Who we have been so generous? |
2010-05-23 - Desire's Journey - Disowned Desire Examples of desires used for bad then good King David - passions got him in trouble, then gave us our book of worship Peter - was hotheaded disciple always quick with a reply Paul - extremely zealous for the traditions of his fathers, killed Christians Those who killed their passion altogether would murder the very essence that makes heros of the faith |
2010-08-16 - Waking Dead - Motives Those who live from the mind shed few tears There are the stated reasons for what we do and then there is the real reasons = motives On the day of judgment, the Lord will expose the motive of men's hearts - 1 Corinthians 4:5 The Pharisees prayed to impress men with their spirituality and gave to impress with their generosity God looks at the heart The law is written on our hearts and consciences - Romans 2:15 It is why it is so important to not to harden our hearts The heart is where we do our deepest thinking Jesus knows what the we are thinking in our hearts Solomon asked for a wise and discerning heart - 1 Kings 3:9 The modern mistake is to think that the mind equals reason and the heart equals emotion |

2010-10-08 - Contagious Christian - Attractiveness of Authenticity (part 2) Authentic Emotional life Expressing sadness or hurt or grief are not signs of low faith or shallow character There are two negative consequences when a person outlaws certain feelings
Remember what Jesus did when His friend Lazarus died? He wept Authentic Confession How Christian deal with their foul-ups and failures The thinking here is that our moral missteps will drive people away But actually, It is a powerful witness to the transforming power of Christ Zacchaeus' household was converted because he was very open with what he did wrong Today authentic confession cause a seeker in today's non-fault society to realize that only the living God would prompt a person to say "it is my fault and I am sorry" |
2010-11-03 - Contagious Christian - Finding the Approach Besides talking to people you are ready know try contacting people you used to know The curiosity factor comes into play
In the process, prayerfully watch for opportunities to share the way God has changed your life There are also many opportunities where there people you would like to know We all go to gas stations, stores, restaurants With a little forethought, these errands can be turned into evangelistic opportunities Change your thinking about the way you look at the employee who are serving you These are people who matter to God and put in your path for you to meet When we approach people with this attitude, with concern and respect - it is easy to get on a first name basis with them |
2010-11-11 - Contagious Christian - Starting Spiritual Conversations It is not enough to merely have high impact (HI) and close proximity (CP) We have got to talk about our faith and put the spiritual concepts of the gospel into everyday words People won't figure out the gospel out on their own - Romans 10 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways - Isaiah 55:8 Watching the life of a Christian (even a contagious one) won't be enough Someone has to articulate the gospel Must take the initiative and steer the the conversation toward spiritual topics This book contains a limited number of examples - meant to spur our thinking Must start with the heart-felt assurance that the gospel is good new my life and for others If you need a firmer foundation:
|
2010-11-13 - Contagious Christian - Indirect Method This method involves taking some element of conversation and utilizes it to turn the conversation to faith Business How is your year going? Financial, OK; family-wise, pretty well; spiritually, going great. Which one are you talking about? Relocations Moving to a new neighborhood Have you found: places to shop, dining out locations, get your car repaired, a good church? Hobbies and Spare Time Talk to someone about your hobbies and roles in relating to church If you work with the sound system, website, children programs, etc - share about that Nature Talk about what God may have been thinking when creating plants and animals Goal is to raise the topic, not to envoke an affirming response - this may spur a discussions Shared Struggles Difficulty in a common with someone can be an opportunity to share how God has helped you Holidays They are an excellent opportunity to turn conversations toward the spiritual side

2011-09-04 - Fearing God - Going Deep (part II) Our attitude is the most important thing when it comes to Bible study We need a Teachable spirit Avoid becoming like the Jew who Jesus said to stop thinking you gain eternal life from just reading the scriptures - John 5:39-40 We need a Spirit of dependence Proverbs 2 - We should call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding God has hidden things from the "wise" and revealed them to children Childlike simplicity and humility go hand-in-hand with teachable spirit Self-opinionated are neither dependent nor teachable We need to be diligent Proverbs 2 describes this attitude:
Digging is labor intensive |
2011-09-05 - Fearing God - Great Thoughts About God If you want to fear God - every aspect of your day-to-day must dominated by thoughts of God Takes work to do this, you won't grow other wise - 1 Timothy 4:7 It is not enough to just stand in awe of God as we read about Him It should be part of out thinking The sophisticated discoveries comes from when man thinks using God's thoughts
Great thoughts about God will lead us to a realistic thoughts about ourselves
The Lord delights in those who fear Him and does not trust in man - Psalms 147:10-11 |
2011-09-30 - Proverbs on Laziness (part II) How do I overcome being lazy (How do I become disciplined)? 1. Carpe Diem = Seize the Day We are only given a certain amount of time in a day (and on earth)
Being disciplined is about the little things in life.
One thing that can hurt your discipline is if you over commit

2011-10-17 - Genesis 17 - Abram becomes Abraham SummaryGod made a covenant with Abram and renamed him Abraham. He renamed Sarai Sarah and promised them a son. The men were circumcised. ObservationsGenesis 17:9 - As for you, you must keep my covenant Personal ApplicationI know I can one-sided and stubborn in my thoughts and sometimes in my relationships. When I get my mind set to do something, that is the way it is. This can be a strength in some situations but a very big weakness if I am contrary to God's thinking. I need to be humble and allow God to change my thoughts and my ways. |
2011-10-18 - Genesis 18 - Abraham prays for SodomSummaryThree visitors came and said that Sarah would have a son next year. Sodom was very evil; Abraham pleaded with the LORD for the city. ObservationsGenesis 18:14 - Is anything too hard for the LORD? Personal ApplicationI doubt God way too much (once is too much )and I do probably everyday - I am doing it right now. God is god, he can do anything. Yes, even that. I have got to stop making God smaller in my mind. Every time that I think I have an understanding how big and strong he is - God is beyond that. He greater than I can imagine. |
2011-11-18 - Thankfulness Thankfulness Colossians 1:3,10-12, 2:6-7, 3:15, 17, 4:2 - In one letter we are instructed SEVEN times to be thankful people. Pretty important CHART Philippians 4:10-13 ~ Paul did not start out this way
1. Remember the past. Ephesians 2:1-10 ~ Remember how you used to live.
Serve with a grateful heart Matthew 6:1-4 ~ Remember it is more blessed to give than receive.
Romans 8:28 ~ God works out EVERYTHING for the good of those who love him. Do you believe this ? 3. Think toward the future. Philippians 4:2-8 ~ You name is written in the book of life.

2011-11-21 - Getting Advise (part I) One of the greatest advantages you have as a disciple is the wealth of knowledge, insight and experience available from all the other disciples in the church. These individuals have experienced a lot personally or have helped many people through tough or challenging situations in life and want to be there to offer help (or advise) to you. We came to God by letting Him use others to help us see the truth, and we will grow stronger and closer to God by letting others continue to help us. Getting advise will be of tremendous help to you in your Christian walk. This study will help you see how God uses advise to help you grow and your best for Him. Our feelings and emotions can often mislead us and hurt us

2012-01-14 - Ministry - Driven By Zeal for God John 2:12-17; Romans 12:11; Numbers 25:6-13 Jesus faced many challenging situations in the ministry. He faced the overwhelming needs of the sick, the poor, the faithless and the empty but antagonizing religious leaders. He also faced an overwhelming sinful scene at the temple one day. Seeing that the temple worship had become simply a place to make money from others as they were sacrificing animals, Jesus decided to take action! After making a whip, he drove everyone from the temple area, overturning tables and scattering money everywhere! With many rebukes and challenges laid out to the religious crowd, the disciples thought of one word, "zeal." God blesses us when we take action against sin with our hearts full of zeal! Jesus was not afraid to be driven by zeal! Jesus was not holding back when challenged by sinful situations! He did not ignore, forget, and walk away thinking "tomorrow" or cowardly crumble with fear! 2013-03-17 - Prayer of the Righeous - God is Preparing a Place (part I) Jesus wanted his disciples to remember where they were headed When Jesus prayed, heaven was in his mind We are being transformed into Jesus' likeness - 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Pictures of the fellowship of heaven, not like being there:
In this world we get to be with ones we love and respect, in heaven it will be great fellowship and unending |
2013-09-11 - Men Leave Childhood Behind We need to choose to let go of childishness and foolishness Clinging to childhood while growing into manhood is like trying to run in opposite directions at the same time aka the “Peter Pan Syndrome” Teen years are often wasted and fathers have become silent. Rather than initiating serious conversations with wiser men, they goof off with fools in sports bars Too many men want the freedoms, rewards, and privileges of manhood but only the responsibilities of boyhood Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ - Ephesians 4:14-15 Do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature - 1 Corinthians 14:20 The noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands - Isaiah 32:8 |
2013-09-24 - A Man Recognizes His Accountability Having no accountability always leads to irresponsibility One day we will stand before God one day and be held accountable for how we lived Our actions not only have immediate consequences but eternal ones as well:
This is wired into our consciences and confirmed throughout His Word Everything in a man’s thinking changes when he realizes that he is only one heartbeat from standing before the Lord Do you know for certain where you will spend eternity after you die? Preparing for that day is why we should become accountable to one another Here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man - Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 Accountability dynamically helps make us into men - humble, wise, responsible, faithful men. |
2014-03-17 - Teach Them to Fear the Lord (part I) If you and your wife had two children and trained them to faithfully live for Christ, and both of them raised two more children to faithfully live for Christ as well, then those same ten generations could produce 1,024 faithful believers. Teach the Word “diligently” to your children “when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up” - Deuteronomy 6:7 Instruct “to fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments” - Deuteronomy 6:2 Love, truth, and respectful fear go hand in hand. Fearing the Lord transforms our thinking. |
2015-02-15 - Our Source of Joy Yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation - Habakkuk 3:17-18 What we think about and focus on really does affect our attiutde - The Power of Positive Thinking Habakkuk fortold:
Habakkuk grieved over the coming destruction but he did sink into despair Joy in God was a choice, Babylonians or no Babylonians To maintain his joy, he counted two truths
His loving God was the one constant in his life

2015-08-26 - Right Reasons May your money be destroyed with you for thinking God's gift can be bought - Acts 8:20 Intense self-examination is needed to know if we are doing things for the right reasons Simon the Sorcerer had a big problem with inappropriate motivation:
He had some very real power - people called him "the Great One - the Power of God" - Acts 8:10 Simon approached Peter and offered him money in exchange for the power to lay hands on people and give them the Holy Spirit He appeared to want God's power to make a profit Peter scolded him for believing money had anything to do with God power

2015-09-26 - In It Together Then they stood on each side of Moses holding up his hands until sunset - Exodus 17:12 Moses' part of the battle was to provide spiritual support for his army The hold up his staff represented Israel's dependence on God:
Israel ran into problems when Moses became tired Quick thinking from Aaron and Hur - held his hands up The problem was solved through cooperation |
2015-10-27 - Life of Separation Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daugther and instead to share the oppression of God's people - Hebrews 11:24-25 He left his life of ease under Pharaoh and indentified himself with the suffering of his own people Mose was born to a poor Hebrew mother, but he was raised in a world of privilege He left Pharaoh's family and inheritance for being a descendant of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob When you identify yourself with Christ you leave your old ways and thinking. |
2015-11-01 - Secure in Love I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love - Romans 8:38 Through difficult times we are tempted to think God must really hate me Some have the misguided idea of the relationship between difficulties and God's love Paul opposed such thinking through his suffering that most of us can not imagine He never saw his suffering as an occasion to doubt God's love for him Can anything ever separate us?
No! Despite these things overwhelming victory is ours through Christ - Romans 8:37 |
2015-12-22 - Frame of Reference This happened so the power of God could be seen in him - John 9:3 Jesus' disciples believed bad things happen to bad people Jesus quickly corrected their faulty thinking by denying the man's blindness had anything to do with anyone's sin This blindness was to be one day used to bring the people's attention to Jesus' devine power and authority When blind man obeyed Jesus, he was able to see for the first time in his life Jesus' miracle changed the disciples' notions about God and how he works through human circumstances |
