2010-05-16 - Desire's Journey - Battle Between Us What causes fights? Isn't it the evil desires within you? - James 4:1-2 The life we want is so far from the life we truly want. For longing to be filled - we need the cooperation of others We need others, it is part of our design Very few of our desire are self-fulfilling The world is indifferent to our desire We weren't made to be ignored We pretend it does not matter - it is doing damage to our souls Resentment - simmering anger at our blocked desires We pretend we have rise above it |
2010-05-17 - Desire's Journey - The Beast Within Years of living in an indifferent hostile world creates a deep sense of unsettledness with in us Battle of good and evil within us - Romans 7:20-23 Sinful desires are contrary to the Spirit They conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want - Galatians 5:17 There is a nagging awareness warning us not to feel our hunger too deeply or it will undo us We wouldn't want to do anything crazy or desperate We want what our unmet desire wants but our sinful nature wants what is contrary We try everything - TV, sex, relationships, drugs, etc - going one to another We don't know what we want because we're so unacquaninted with our desire We try to keep a safe distance between our daily lives and our heart's desire - because it causes us too much trouble Do we really want to open Pandora's box? Dare we awaken our hears to their true desires? Is it better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all? Our dilemma is this: we can't seem to live with desire, and we can't live without it |
2010-05-22 - Desire's Journey - Goodness Does Christianity condemn desire? Like the Puritans It is not a matter of desire is good or not - it is what we do with it Something has gone wrong Faith on its way to maturity moves from duty to delight Prodigal son |

2010-08-04 - Waking Dead - Arm Yourselves (part 1) What are God's intentions toward me? What is it I've come to believe? Heard that God cares and has some glowing promises given to us in Scripture The glory of God is man fully alive Jesus says he came to give life I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full - John 10:10 Whoever believes in me - streams of living water will flow from within him - John 7:38 Life is all over the scriptures: You have made known to me the path of life - Psalms 16:11 In him was life and that life was the light of men - John 1:4 Come to me to have life - John 5:40 Tell the people the full message of this new life - Acts 5:20 |
2010-08-20 - Waking Dead - Our Desperate Need Something has gone wrong within the human race Most of the misery we suffer on this planet is the fruit of the human heart gone bad God created us to reflect his glory Barely three chapters into the Bible, we have missed up the whole project - Sin enters the picture By chapter 6, God can not bear it anymore and has to start over - Genesis 6:5-6 This is the first mention of God's heart and it is broken We know we are not what we were meant to be Most of the religions concur on this point Usual remedies involve some sort of shaping up
Out of the heart comes all sorts of evil - Matthew 15:19 We don't need an upgrade, we need transformation |
2010-09-28 - Waking Dead - Devotion and War Caring for your heart is also how you protect your relationship with God Your heart is where life flows Whoever believes in me - streams of living water will flow from within him - John 7:27-38 God's friends care for their heart because they matter to Him What does your heart need? Some needs are common to all hearts like silence and solitude Very early Jesus went away to a solitary place - Mark 1:35 We need to make time to get away - our entire lives are ruled by the expectation of others and the heart is the first to go The enemy will tell you this is foolish "You have many more important things to do with your time" Caring for your heart is an act of obedience, faith and an act of war The first wave of any strike against us is to rob us of the heart to fight it Hyenas cannot bring down a lion in its prime - they run it, taunt it, and wear it down to the point of exhaustion The strategy of our Enemy in the age we live is busyness and drivenness Most will say when asked how they are doing is "really busy" That we way we are going to get burned out and lose touch with our hearts The empty heart is more vulnerable to temptation |

2011-08-21 - In Rememberence of Me Jesus called the disciples to the Passover fest before would head to the cross to reflect and remember their time together Luke 22:19-20 - Do this in remembrance of me Why? because we forget both little things and big things 1. Disciples forgot while they were at the table - v24 - Conversations they have had at the passover table:
2. Peter forgot the very same day the very same day and denied Jesus v54 - He forgot that Jesus said and he had the power to raise the dead I can relate:
Our forgetfulness is not a reflection of its importance but a reflection our weakness in remembering |
2011-09-12 - Followup: Purity (part I) Our society exalts sexual immorality, and it’s raging out of control. Teenagers have hormones that are newly active and they can let them rage out of control. Singles are looking for love in all the wrong places. Marriages are ending in divorce more now than ever before even though more people claim to be Christians. God has made it clear that he wants us all to let the natural sexual desires remain dormant until they can be expressed within the marriage relationship. In the Bible the term “purity” is most often referring to sexual purity, but it also is used to refer to being free from contamination by worldliness in general. Contaminated water is undrinkable, just as a contaminated heart is unacceptable to God. Question: Have you ever had food poisoning? What happens?

2011-10-02 - Genesis 2 - Creation & Recreation Recap SummaryGod formed a man and gave him the garden in Eden, except for the tree of knowledge. Adam was alone so God made a woman as his partner. ObservationsGenesis 2:7 - from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life Personal ApplicationMany times I look for ways on how to automate work (it is part of the work I do as part of my career) but sometimes lose sight that work is what I am suppose to be doing. When automating tasks, I need to make sure I am using my additional time to do even more useful things that God has called me to do. |

2012-11-05 - Unknown Romance Other than the official channels, he also speak to us through what happens to us Our inner story is audible early in the morning and the middle of the night - when the inner editor is off duty Our heart is captured by mystery - it was one of the great things about being a child As adults, we have learned to tell ourselves that it is naive, we need to move to more reasonable things He think we have outgrown it and it was just foolishness of a child Contemporary Christianity teaches us to mistrust this New Age heresy In all of our hearts there lies a longing for a Sacred Romance It will not away in spite of our years of ignoring it Romance couched in mystery is set deep within us We desire to be part of something larger than ourselves We have two deep desires:
It is the core of our spiritual journey Any religion that ignores it survives only as guilt-induced legalism, a set of propositions to be memorized and rules to be obeyed What does these desires have to do with God? Hasn't God left us with them to draw us closer to him? |

2014-01-25 - Bless Your Children We need to boldly redefined success for them = “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” - Deuteronomy 6:5 1. God’s Word must “be on your heart.” Must always tell them how God is moving:
Every day gives you fresh, new material for making your life with Christ a front-row experience 2. Training your children to love God must occur within the context of close relationships. Talk about God is informal time:
Making disciples of all nations begins with your own children - it all starts with their hearts.

2015-05-17 - What's Inside Don't let anyone think less of you - 1 Timothy 4:12 What really counts is on the inside Paul wanted Timothy to understand that his fitness to serve had nothing to do with his age or experience It had everything to do with what lay within him - godly character and good understanding of the Word If people could look inside of your soul, what would they see? |
2015-05-23 - Influence from Within Never before had there been a king like Josiah who turned to the Lord will all his heart and soul and strength - 2 Kings 23:25 Josiah did what was pleasing to the Lord's sight - 2 Kings 22:2 His background did not set him up for greatness - his father was a wicked king that drug Judah into idolity For Josiah, it wasn't a matter of where he had come from but where he was headed:

2015-08-22 - Costly Unbelief You will see it happen with your own eyes but you won't be able to eat any of it - 2 KIngs 7:2 God generously give to those who are willing to ask him and beileve him for what they need Nothing keeps God from blessing people quite like unbelief Samaria's people suffered a terrible famine follwoing the Aramites invasion The desparate king sent his officer to ask Elisha to do something Elisha said within one day there would be more than enough flour and barley for everyone - 2 Kings 7:1 The king's officer just couldn't believe it even if the Lord opened the heavens He was dead wrong and when it came down, the officer could not enjoy any of it In what areas of your life do you need to take God at his word? |
2015-08-31 - Unexpected Wisdom I am full of pent-up words and the spirit within me urges me on - Job 32:18 Job's three friends felt that God was punishing Job for some hidden sin - he rejected this Job thought God was treating him unfairly All four of them had it wrong Elihu: God repays people according to their deeds. God gave Samson all the strength he needed to succeed Samson squandered an opportunity for greatness and left a legacy of pride Will you use your gifts for his benefit or just for yourself? |
2018-02-06 - Sources Gospels mention about 30-35 days of Jesus' life Jesus' sayings can be spoken within five hours We don't have as much as we want but do have as much as we need Gospel attempt to give us nothing but his words, NOT:
Words are all God has given us - with words therefore we must be content The words are not Jesus' exact words, they are translated words The gosel in Greek, not even in the language Jesus spoke The men who wrote the gospels never mention of Jesus' appearance We must at the beginning banish all pictures of Jesus from our minds, focus on his character People are either attracted or repelled to Jesus |
2018-02-13 - Sincerity Sincerity a virtue the human heart craves and parents eyes seek for their children This is what we demand in all the higher relationships in life Sincerity is the very blood and breath of friendship There are some things we cannot be and many things we can not do, but within us, the one thing is within our reach-praying for a heart of sincerity If you want to see sincerity in its lovelist form, then come to Jesus He was incapable of a lie No other people so stirred his anger as men who pretended to be what they were not God expects every man to be what he claims to be It was the sincerity of Jesus which drove him unto deadly conflict with the hypocrites A hypocrite and Jesus cannot live together |
