2008-06-09 - Purpose Driven Life - The Value of Time The importance of things can be measured by how much time we are willing to invest in them Your time is your life Greatest gift you can give someone is your time Words alone are worthless - 1 John 3:18 Most desired gift of love is focused attention Give without loving, but you can not love without giving - God gave everything (John 3:16) Make the most of every opportunity Other and you are not guaranteed tomorrow Who do you need to spend more time with? What do you need to cut out of your day? |
2008-06-17 - Purpose Driven Life - Transformed by Truth The truth transforms us Spiritual growth is the process of replacing lies with truth Everything around you exists because "God said so" Must accept the Bible's authority
Unrealiable authorities (at the Garden of Eden as well):
Must assimilate its truth Allow yourself to be transformed by the truth
Must apply it principles

2008-08-17 - 30 Days at the Cross - Do not Come Down! Jesus was tempted with the words, "save yourself, come down from the cross If they understood the eternal significance of the moment, they would have cried "No, Jesus! Do not come down!" Jesus was tempted:
Our mission is the same (Luke 9:23) - must deny self and lose our life for others We must quit looking for some new, easy approach and decide to love The world is screaming out: "Save yourself! Come down from the cross!" Jesus cries: "Do not come down!" |
2008-09-02 - Teach Us To Pray - Full Of Faith Reading from 2 Kings 6:15-17 We can relate to Elisha's servant, he lacked faith As Elisha's servant looked down at the Arameans, he turned in despair to Elisha Do you collapse in a heap of self-pity or discouragement? Elisha's servant got humble and trusted his leader Problems always look less daunting when you get God in the picture and decide to be full of faith |
2008-09-22 - Teach Us To Pray - Enemies and Opposition Whoever the enemies may be, the words of Jesus are still the same: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you - Matthew 5:44 It our enemies who afford us the opportunity to glory God by shining like stars - Philippians 2:15 Must forgive and love our enemies to be permitted to be sons of God - Matthew 5:44 When praying for our enemies, we should focus on:

2009-01-11 - Raising Awesome Kids - Repect: Eliminate Critical, Harsh Talk Reckless words pierce like a sword - Proverbs 12:18 A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor - Proverbs 11:12 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your months - Ephesians 4:29-32 So thing we just plain need to get rid of: Harsh words Men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken - Matthew 12:36-37 Name calling Would you use the same words if Jesus was in the room? Let that be the test. Rudeness Love is not rude - 1 Corinthians 13:5 Get rid of all actions, looks, and expression related God hate haughty eyes - Proverbs 6:16-17 These are signs of disrespect Recognize > Confront > Eliminate from their behavior |
2009-01-12 - Raising Awesome Kids - Genuine Appreciation Appreciation for one another does not come about by accident Must teach it, talk about it, show it and confront the ways the kids are not expressing it - only way Cultivate appreciation by creating as many situations as possible where it expressed in words Encourage your family to begin expressing respect, appreciation, and encouragement - whole atmosphere will change Pleasant words are sweet to the soul - Proverbs 16:24 Teach your older children how to lead and teach your younger ones how to follow

2009-02-02 - Jesus with People - Seeing and Not Seeing Luke 7:36-50 - Simon, I have something to tell you Jesus is able to cut through the muck - right to the heart He had outspoken clarity - Luke 7:40 In truth Simon saw neither the woman or himself for how they really were Jesus did see the woman - Her sin was obvious as her brokenness He actions came from her new sense of reality Once she saw Jesus, she responded the only way she could have - compelled by love - 2 Corinthians 5:14 Jesus' words should have cut Simon deeply - But he who has been forgiven little lives little He wants to have a relationship with us Think of trying to have a relationship with ant - talking with it, caring for it and especially dying for it - it is unfathomable! How many times did Jesus change people's view if God? Who am I most like: Simon or the sinful woman? |
2009-02-03 - Jesus with People - Give or Take? World seem to be divided into givers and takers Usually we feel as though we are the givers and everyone else is a taker We can draw back and become cynical - before long we cling to possessions, our rights or our feelings At that point we have become takers We would never admit it - and many of us do not see it Jesus meet a man that was a taker - Matthew Matthew was no different than us - he probably had a family with mouths to feed As he left the office and crept closer toward the crowd surrounding Jesus He heard the words - You must deny yourself and take up your cross and follow me Jesus then walked up to Matthew and said "Follow me" His life changed forever - became a disciple of Jesus How did Jesus know? do it? Jesus knew that he was sick and need to get well - Mark 2:17 We need to see people as they ready are and what they can become Is there some in your life you can share with but haven't because you don't think they are open? |
2009-02-11 - Jesus with People - Heart Determined to Love Jesus' strongest and clearest denunciation of the Pharisees came in Matthew 23

2009-04-30 - No one like him - Differences from Jesus and the prophets (part 1) 1. His words were from the Father Prophets – “This is what the Lord says…”2. Where to get help Prophets - “Come to the Lord.”3. Fulfillment of scripture Prophets – Prophetic messages |
2009-05-29 - No one like him - Conflict and Controversy (part 2) Like the earlier prophets, Jesus spoke bluntly to the religious leaders Ungodly religion must be rebuked; Nice words will not drive the point home; Too much is at stake Jesus did not enjoy the rebukes but wept over cities (Luke 19:41) Jesus made sharp contrasts between traditions and the word of God (Matthew 15:3) Religion that avoided sinners at all cost vs a religion that seeks after sinner at all cost The goal of a physician is not to spend time with the sick but to help the sick get well |
2009-05-31 - No one like him - Even Death on the Cross All during Jesus life, his brutal death was on his mind; he struggled and submitted to it (John 12:27) At Gethsemane, did not try to do it alone but asked for help from his friends (Mark 14:32-34); Peter and Judas did not ask for help One of the most important words in the Bible, Jesus – not as I will, but as you will (Mark 14:35-36) The image of the cross was so gruesome that it took 500 years to appear in art |
