Unity

December 11th, 2008

God is very serious about disciples being unified with each other. Today we are going to read several scriptures showing God's conviction about this topic.

1. Read Luke 11:17. Any kingdom will be ruined by division or disunity. Even God's kingdom. Unity is very important. Why?

2. Read 1 Corinthians 1:10. The goal is to be "perfectly united," no divisions at all. Do you believe this i
s possible? Why? Why not? How do you tolerate disunity in your own heart?

3. Read 1 Corinthians 1:10-13. Is it wrong to c
ompare and criticise one leader over another? Why? How do we do this?

4. Read 1 Corinthians 3:1-5. Remember: spiritual ba
bies start quarrelling. Have you quarrelled lately? With whom? Have you resolved it?

5. Read Matthew 5:23. How quickly sh
ould you go to someone who has a bad attitude towards you? Is it okay to wait if it just isn't your way to be direct with people? Why is it important to obey this scripture? What should you do if you think the person won't listen to you?

6. R
ead Ephesians 4:25-32. It is a lie if we bury our bitterness or malice and act like everything is okay. Have you ever hidden a bitter attitude? What do you need to do now? Have you gone to bed angry? With whom? When do you plan to speak with them to resolve things? Why would Satan not want us to resolve conflict? Read Hebrews 12:15.

7. Proverbs 10:18. Remember,
silence is not an option. Bad attitudes must be worked out. Otherwise bitter roots will grow.

8. Read James 1:19-20. Her
e are God's guidelines. How does this apply to you?

God wan
ts his family to be happy. Bad attitudes, bitter roots, and quarrels cause disunity. They make us unhappy. And they make God unhappy. Resolve today to deal with conflicts the way God has commanded, not the way you learned growing up or feel comfortable with now.
