Being Discipled

THE GOAL:

Colossians 1:28-29 ~ The goal of discipling is to
present every Christian PERFECT in Christ.

  • Develop Christ-like attitudes and actions towards all aspects of life:
  • Your relationships
  • Your career
  • Helping the poor and under privileged
  • Your finances
  • Evangelism etc........

GOD'S PLAN:

Jeremiah 17:9-10
~ Our own hearts lie to us therefore we all
need DISCIPLING.

2 Samuel 12:1-13
~ Here is a classic examp
le of the purpose and BENEFITS of having someone help us with our spiritual lives.

  • David is not dealing with his sin properly and it takes Nathan's words to get him honest and broken about what he has done.

Matthew 28:18-20
~ God wants every Christian to have someone in their lives teaching them to OBEY all of Jesus' commands.

THE DISCIPLER:

2 Corinthians 7:10-11
~ You must council to GODLY SORROW.

  • If people only have a worldly sorrow for their sin it will lead to spiritual death.
  • Therefore CONVICT people in your discipling don't just CONVINCE them.

Isaiah 28:27-29
~ Different people require different levels o
f hardness. (Cartwheels > Rod > Stick)

  • Cumin is a very soft seed, where-as grain has a hard outer shell.
  • Therefore be sensitive and wise in your discipling of different people.

Galatians 6:1

~ Comfort and re-affirm your lov
e for someone who has reached Godly sorrow or else they may be overwhelmed with EXCESSIVE sorrow.
