Hope you had some fun with this. It is not fun going into a serious competition without some training like a race...

------------------------------------------------------------------

Running in a race this weekend - Groundhog Run. I am always reminded of lessons I can relate to our spiritual race:

Race training takes discpline
1 Corinthians 9:24-27

  • Stirct training, what does that mean for you in your spiritual walk?
  • Purposeful - what does look like? you look like strange otherwise running aimlessly - walking into a spider web, starting a race and going to get ice cream instead
  • Crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever - how much more should we be training?
  • Show metals from races - fun to look at but they meaningless compared to a crown that will last forever

Starting the racing takes perpective

Galatians 6:1-5

What instructions here can be applied to running a spiritual race?

  • Humility, it can be painful
  • Takes others, not just about you - running partner helps
  • Comparing is a path of no joy - can be humbled by someone passing you; can become prideful if you pass someone

Finishing the race takes perservere
Hebrews 12:1-3

  • We have those times where our walk with God does not go as planned
  • As so with my run, biggest mistake is starting to fast.
  • How can we get off track in our spritual race?
  • How do we recover from it?
  • Jesus never got off track but he preserve through his trials to gain the crown/finish the race
