Cain & Abel

April 24th, 2006

OQ: Share your name, and tell if you've ever been tricked by someone & how they tricked you.

Genesis 4:2-12. C: Now lets act out Genesis 4. {Choose 3 characters from the group and have them act:

1st character: Abel--kept flocks, brought fat portion from some of the first born of his flock.

2nd character: Cain--worked the soil, brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord.  Cain was angry and downcast - having bad attitude.

3rd character: God--"Why are you so angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door, it desires to have you but you must master it."

Cain said to his brother: "Let's go out to the field." While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

Lord: "Where is your brother Abel?"

Cain: "I don't know. Am I my brother's keeper?"

Lord: "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood calls out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you work the ground it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth."}

C: Cain went away very sad. Just like some people have tricked us, so he tricked Abel and killed him. Q: Now that you have seen this act, I would like you all to describe Cain's character:

  1. Cain's laziness.
  2. His relationship with his brother Abel is bad.
  3. He has bad attitudes.
  4. He has a jealous heart.
  5. No self-control over his sins.
  6. Had evil thoughts.
  7. Satan attacked him, he is not himself when he killed his brother.

C: At this point, I want all of you to write down on a piece of paper how you have been like Cain one way or another and how just because of a small matter, that it hurts your relationship with someone you love. Q: Who would like to share about it? {SHARE YOURSELF, and let them share.}

C: There are many quarrels and misunderstanding in many homes today because we could not see the damage of our sins and what it is doing to us. Some of us here today refuse to talk to our parents, brothers, sisters, friends for a long time just because of a small matter.

C: Quarrels and misunderstanding will not be able to resolve our problems. They can be solved only through God, who wants to heal our relationships with our family, our friends, and even our enemies.

Isaiah 61:1. Q: What do we learn here? [God has sent Jesus to bind up the broken hearted and to proclaim freedom for the captives. Jesus has come to comfort all those who mourn to provide those who grieve. He wants to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes.] Isaiah 61:2-4. Q: Do you believe that God can do miracles in your home if you allow him to? {SHARE YOURSELF: For me personally, God has definitely changed my relationship with my parents at home...}

C: In conclusion, I would like to read you Matthew 9:28-29. Jesus said, "According to your faith it will be done to you." That verse is still true today. Believe, and let him change your life by studying the Bible and coming to our meetings.
